Does anyone know if this is a good choice for a career? Are there other occupations that I haven't thought of that would utilize my talents in the marketplace?Need some advice on which career direction I should go?

  • Can anyone advice me on mixing swimming with lifting?

I want to know the best way to complement these two workouts. I usually do 2 upper body lifting sessions each week (1 day push, 1 day pull). Should I leave one day of rest in between swimming and lifting? I have heard that swimming will speed recovery and I have also heard that it will tear down muscle as well? Help! Can anyone advice me on mixing swimming with lifting?
you don't need to rest in between

but, once or twice a week, take a day of rest where you don't do either

I want to start canning, do you have any advice?

I am moving to a farm and I will have about every vegetable and already have some fruit trees, peach, pear, apricot, apple. Do you have any advice for a first time canner?I want to start canning, do you have any advice?
Be organized and make sure you have everything you need before you even start. Read through all the recipes your going to use and make sure you have enough ingredients. Make sure your jars are sterilized along with the lids and rings. Have your water tested if your making anything pickled, soft water will make them mushy and give a nasty looking color. Having enough counter/work space is very important. When your jars come out of the canner place them away from any cool drafts as they can and will shatter if you put them directly in front of an a/c vent {yes it happened to me, what a damn mess plum jelly no less} Have fruits and veggies ripe but not over or under ripe that will also make a big diff in the quality of the finished product. If you want to do allot of canning stagger your planting so your not overwhelmed because everything will come ripe at the same time. In other words plant 2 rows of peas then 1 week later plant 2 more, this goes for anything you really like. And if you get overwhelmed with your harvest don`t be afraid to give it away, but be forewarned your friends might start locking there cars and hiding if you try and pawn too much off on them, LOL. Good luck with your venture.I want to start canning, do you have any advice?
Get an updated book on canning. Follow the directions to the letter. Canning is a lot of work and it is time consuming but the results are worth the effort. Again, it is vital that you read, understand and follow the directions. Some foods that contain a lot of acid or are canned with vinegar are pretty safe but low acid foods and meat are dangerous unless it is done exactly right. You will find by reading the canning book that some things have to be pressure canned and some can be water bath canned. There is a big difference. Each type of food will have different instructions as to how to pack them and how much time they have to spend in the caner. Read up on it and enjoy.
Don't jump to conclusions about someone elses canning unless you've tried it. Some people don't always tell the truth and some are just plain stupid.

Try all methods or at least try and figure them out. I wouldn't try anything that I didn't know for sure, you could waste a lot of time and expenses.
Go to the library and ask them what books they can recommend for you; You have to know what you are doing when you can something because if you do it wrong you could get very very sick from the bacteria or even mold getting in the food.
Start shopping thrift stores, garage sales, wherever, now for supplies. Jars can be found for $.10- $.50 at garage sales, etc. I bought my canner at St Vincents for $5.00. You will save oodles of money if you start now, before everybody else does.
Ball Corp. has a very good book on canning. Not so detailed but informative. I bought one at Wal mart two years ago( In the canning supply dept)
you should look around at diffrent websites to help you out in what you need for supplies.

Any helpful advice for opening small business in Mexico City?

I am interested in opening a small business, like a general store with groceries, snacks, beverages, serve hot food. etc. Maybe a computer to charge for internet use. Some magazines, etc. I speak basic Spanish. My husband is Mexican and has lived in Mexico City most of his life.

We will save money in U.S., then open the business in Mexico. Any suggestions on how to research this, how much money I need to open this? Any suggestions on what I should sell? Anyone have experience with this? Thanks.Any helpful advice for opening small business in Mexico City?
Since there is a little mom%26amp;pop grocery on every block of most cities in Mexico .... just go in and take a look at the others. The Coke and beer distributors will give you coolers. Sanditas will give you racks for chips. You'll need fruit, veggies and dairy if you want to be a one-stop

The main issue will be location-location-location and a decent landlord if you can't buyAny helpful advice for opening small business in Mexico City?
You will have ';mucha competencia'; in whatever you retail anywhere in Mexico.

Internet cafes are popular but should be set up so they have no access to control panels.

    Location , like anywhere is important. Near schools or ';Zocalos';

I read a few years back that half of Mexicos population was under 20 years of age.

    Many of these ';Jovenes'; can not buy a computer and wouldn't like missing out on the ';Craze';

There are nearly 10 in and around the Zocalo in Acapulco and you cant get in some of the time . Line ups in the evening.

C.F.E.sting you pretty good here. Set your power savers for short periods.

    Laundromats are another good thing.

    Tiendas have fierce competition and the fridges will eat up the commercial hydro which is much higher than for ';Casa Particulares';

A friend of mine has a two bed house here with his wife and his hydro bill for one year is $70.00 and the water $60.00.

DO YOUR RESEARCH ON THE HYDRO .

If a store across the street charges 2 pesos less , that is where most of the biz goes.

Mexican kids are no different that anywhere else and enjoy showing off their capabilities';Changing Backgrounds'; and seem to enjoy the challenges a computer can offer

    Internet shop ---- Thumbs up
Be patient. That's the best advise I can give you... Opening a business in Mexico is very hard because of all of the permits you need and burocracy. If you've lived in Mexico, you'll understand what I'm talking about. Look for a ';local'; and go to its Delegaci贸n (Benito Juarez, Iztacalco, Miguel Hidalgo, etc.) and ask about what you need to do.
the other guy is very correct in his ideas, also things to remember is that you find out about taxes., Make sure you talk to someone who has a current business and find out who legitamatley can come to your store and collect money from you.

Also it is hard to get the permits at the start and you have to have a place that will not mind having the electricity and the water jump in cost for business use even if there is not water on the place. I am in almost a identicle situation as you but own property there and my wife is english. That is what we were told.
Im gonna write this in spanish cause i dunno the correct terms in english.

If a paralegal talks to a client and gives advice to get another attorney?

If a paralegal tells a client the attorney is not doing all they should.

Tells clients to find another attorney and gives references.

types up a paper for the attorney grievance board in behalf of the clients and gives out attorney clients privileged information.

what could happen to the paralegal?

The paralegal no longer works for the attorney and does not want to be a paralegal any more.

it happened several years ago but the attorney does not know this was taking place. I still talk to the attorney should i tell them and give information pertaining to this and is it a crime if so what is the punishment. If a paralegal talks to a client and gives advice to get another attorney?
It is not a crime. What the attorney does not know will not hurt him in this instance. What you did was highly unethical and if discovered would prohibit you from ever holding a similar position or becoming a member of the bar.If a paralegal talks to a client and gives advice to get another attorney?
It isn't a crime. I would question the ethics involved in all of it, but there is no law against it.

I do know that in all this, if the paralegal is acting as an attorney - as in giving legal advice that an attorney would be best qualified to give - they can be sued for malpractice if they give the incorrect or poor advice. That is why most paralegals steer clear of dealing with such questions.

But if they know that something unethical is going on, they should be reporting it to the bar themselves. As for divulging the information, it could be construed as breach of confidentiality.

Stick with what you know. That is the best thing.
Clearly, the attorney (like so many of his/her colleagues) is a scumbag who has annoyed so many people that their own staff is sick of them. The said paralegal cannot be slapped with any legal consequences, but you can but your *** that the attorney will seek to blackball the person amongst their numerous scumbag friends, thereby keeping them from getting another job in the same field. Please shake that paralegal's hand and thank them for being about something worthwhile. You do not need to inform the attorney that he/she is a scumbag; I'm sure they have a mirror at home and can see that for themselves. After 8 years of prelaw and law, you cannot pretend to be completely stupid. Another thing, the attorney is supposed to provide you with advice, not the other way around. You really like this attorney, don't cha?

PS one other thing, the paralegal also works for the client and is obligated morally toward the clients best interests. Did you overlook that small, unimportant detail?
    ';If a paralegal tells a client the attorney is not doing all they should.';

    His boss could fire him.

    ';Tells clients to find another attorney and gives references.';

    His boss could fire him.

    ';types up a paper for the attorney grievance board in behalf of the clients...';

    ';... and gives out attorney clients privileged information.';

His boss could fire him, and the client could sue him for violating the privilege.

    ';is it a crime ';

No, none of the above is a crime.

Your best advice for someone writing a novel?

I'm beginning to work on a novel. This is my first real attempt at one. Anything important to keep in mind while writing it?Your best advice for someone writing a novel?
The best advice I can give you is this.

    Just sit down and write.

Now, for further help..always tell your story as you want. don't be consistently asking if this is a good story line, plot or whatever. This shows that you don't really have an idea of what you want to write. Or you will get those who will hate your idea and tell you so, maybe influencing you not to write what you want. It's fine to ask what people think of a story..but don't plan your writing on whether people love it or not because you might only get a few who read it..then don't like it for some reason and you stop...missing out on writing the best thing anyone has every read! Read every critique with an open mind, even harsh ones. learn from them but don't cry over them. all writers, good or bad, get them at one time or another. I've sent stuff out, got refusals but only posted them on my wall. Still writing!

Remember when putting work out there to be read, even a rough draft, doesn't mean putting out misspellings and bad grammar. To get good feedback, people need to be able to read your work. They won't bother if they are confronted with a mass of bad grammar and misspellings, no paragraphs and mixed dialogue with other things. (Just critique one like that)

Always remember that the reader does not know what is in your mind..make sure things make sense, read them out loud if you have to. Be sure and do any research well. If your writing about a certain city, and use landmarks and such, be sure to know these places well. Readers will know and point those out as mistakes.

but the main ting is just write the story you want to tell. that is your job as a writer.

Just write!Your best advice for someone writing a novel?
Keep on writing. It may help to write down and create the setting, the characters (and the characters' back stories), and a rough sketch of what the plot is going to be. Many fantastic authors write without planning out the plot (Douglas Adams always made his stories up as he goes), but if this is your first novel, it'd be good to have an outline. This way, you have set goals to reach.

Also, if you want it to be a good novel, you'll prolly need to edit it 5 thousand times. Rough estimate.
    Hey

Well firstly good luck and hope it goes well ;)

I'd say it's always best to write when you get inspiration and you feel like writing. So you get the best out of yourself.

Polish up on any areas you think you are weak in e.g. vocab, spelling or grammar

You don't always have to plan the full the novel as soon as you begin - just let it ... flow

They always say write for yourself- read in the view of yourself not another reader

And they also say 'Show not tell'

Um, what else? I suggest you take the 'Mary Sue' test for characters- you would not want one of those

You should try and make an interesting beginning, something that will grab the readers attention

That's all I have for now

    Hope I helped

    xx
Have a background to all the characters (even if it's basic or vague) to give them another dimension. But don't give the reader too much information too quickly. Keep the characters in character, don't suddenly change a shy character to a loud one etc. Make sure you spread out the plot so it isn't all told in the first few chapters.

    Good luck =D
    1) Keep your characters believable! In all ways! Make them react real. If you have to observe kids to see how a kid would react, do it.

    2) DON'T FORGET TO RE-WRITE!!!! I wrote my first novel in 1st person and realized I didn't like it. Yes, I re-wrote the entire 400 page book in 3rd person. AND I've re-written different parts since then too. You have to re-write. Even if you like some parts, if they're not for the greater good, take them out.

    3) Give enough description to keep the reader interested, but don't go over the top.
    -Point of view

-give the character personality, make them real as you can, b-days, middle names, etc. stuff that may or may not make it into the book.

-write it all the way through before you read it

-make sure the tense stays the same.

-write down all the main things so you don't forget them later.

if i think of anything else, ill email you.

    Good luck
Keep your characters real, don't write things that aren't their personality. Write as much as you can (at first it might take you a while to write a lot, but don't worry, it will get better) and develop the plot. :)
Shoot yourself while you're still happy. (Thanks to Dorothy Parker).

Actually the best advice is to read a ton of whatever kind of book you're thinking of writing. Go to the library and get recommendations.
Write every day. Force yourself to get SOMETHING down on paper, even if it's cr*p. You need a first draft before you can perfect it into a well-written novel.
Write a lot and read a lot .

We are decorating our new home. We have painted our walls in Dulux Perfectly Taupe. Need advice on carpet?

Have just bought a new home. We are not going to do much decor yet just paint the walls and change the carpets downstairs only as we will be doing it up properly in the next couple of years. We have chosen Dulux Perfectly Taupe for the walls in the living room but I am really unsure as to what shade of carpet will go and what colour settees. Any advice will be gratefully received. We are decorating our new home. We have painted our walls in Dulux Perfectly Taupe. Need advice on carpet?
Find a neutral carpet because paint color is way cheaper to change in the future than carpet is. My suggestions are light brown, cream, green, gray, blueish gray.

We just painted our living room and dining room and are getting new carpet. Our paint colors are pinkish-salmon on one wall, medium-dark gray on two walls, purplish-taupe on 3 walls. We chose a light-medium grayish-brown medium-long Frieze carpet. Sort've like a shag but a little shorter and thicker. The carpet hasn't arrived yet, but I think it will look nice. The carpet will go in the living room, the dining room has birch hardwood floors. We are decorating our new home. We have painted our walls in Dulux Perfectly Taupe. Need advice on carpet?
I re-carpeted my home several yrs ago I found it best to go with neutral colors like browns with light black swirls they hold up best to traffic as well as spills ,stay away from light colors such as biege, white, cream, and gray they might look nice but within a short period of time you'll notice small black dots appearing in the carpet and impossible to get rid of
I always get an oatmeal berber with several shades of tan, cream and brown. It goes with everything and shows almost nothing (two cats). Take a painted board to the carpet store to match the taupe in the walls.
Taupe will go with about anything, good choice. My suggestion would be to find a sofa ect. in the color you like (since you'll be able to keep it when you change everything in two years, and pick a color from that for the sofa. That way you won't have to buy a new sofa and carpet when you change everything out, just repaint) Much cheaper than rebuying everything again.

  • What advice do you have for sticking to a regime?

For exersise? I always skip! I need some advice that will somehow keep me motivated.

Thanks! What advice do you have for sticking to a regime?
Well, I do two things. First, I find someone I would absolutely LOVE to look like and I put their photo on my desktop, my refrigerator etc. (yeah, husband loves that too ). That is my inspiration. Then the rest is sheer forcing myself. I have found that listening to music is essential for exercise and it makes me enjoy it a lot so I got an MP3 player so I don't have to listen to commercials and can keep only upbeat, fast paced tunes on there. When I get home I often treat myself (not to food) but to something that I haven't let myself do in a while... and a shower. In my opinion a cool shower after an intense workout is now reward in itself. What advice do you have for sticking to a regime?
I know this sounds weird, but writing. If you write your goals down, why you want to do this and read them everyday (even outloud - Go ahead!), that should be motivation.

    Other ways to motivate?

    1. Bring a buddy or friend with you. Get a support system from your family and close ones.

    2. ';Force'; exercise. Stairs instead of the elevator, park farther away from stores. Even these little things are going to be exercise. Choose activities that doesn't seem like exercise - You can burn 300+ calories (150 lb. person) just by cleaning your house!

    3. Stay positive and in the fight. Instead of ';I can't or won't';, say ';Look how far I've come'; and other sunny thoughts. Take a break every now and then. Just because you worked three hours in a gym doesn't mean you should do it everyday. Reward yourself, in a way.

Any advice on how to help my cat to feel more comfortable with our new puppy?

We have a cat, almost 2, who is very loveable and social. She comes running when we get home, she is always in the same room as the family or following us around the house. She does not hide away and sleep. We are getting a new puppy this weekend and I am sure she is going to feel left out and not like this new family member for awhile. What can I do to help her? I am hoping since the cat is so sociable, in a few months she will love having another family pet around. I just dont know how to go about it other than to be sure to keep on giving Lucy(or cat) attention. Any advice?Any advice on how to help my cat to feel more comfortable with our new puppy?
No matter what the personality of your cat, it WILL hate this new creature in its territory...in the beginning. Be it a cat or a dog, your cat does not want to share its domain with anybody but you guys. The good news is that they WILL cohabit in peace. They may become best friends, or simply learn to tolerate one another.

Here are some tips for a successful introduction:

    1) Have somebody else bring the puppy over to your home. Ask a neighbor, friend or relative to ring your door bell and bring the puppy and then leave it. This is far better than you bringing the puppy inside, which your cat will resent you personally for.

    2) Do not force any kind of interaction between the 2 animals, but supervise closely any spontaneous interactions. Make sure that both your cat and the puppy are out of harm's way. Allow your cat to verbalize her aggression to her heart's content. Let her growl, let her hiss, let her be a cat. I cannot stress this enough. You only want to intervene if there is physical aggression. Let the two animals communicate in their natural ways. If the puppy gets rambunctious with your cat, your puppy very well may get a warning swat. So long as the puppy responds by leaving your cat alone, great. If not, it WILL learn the hard way. If physical aggression errupts, you need to be the dominant ';animal'; and make the aggressor submit to you (knock the animal on its side and gently, but firmly hold it down until it is calm.) This works in both cats and dogs. You need to let the aggressor know you do not approve and that the behavior is unacceptable.

    3. Never let your dog corner your cat or vice versa. Both animals need an escape route. For a cat, this is usually a vertical escape! Where you might normally scold your kitty for jumping on the counters, you might let it get away with it under these circumstances.

    4. Have patience! Little by little, their interactions will be less tense. Show equal love and affection to both animals. Reward them when they are good and don't punish them just because they act out in fear. Every animal is different. It could take 2 weeks, it could take several months. The good news is that your gregarious cat is a great candidate for sharing its home with a new puppy. I predict they will be BFFs! Good luck!Any advice on how to help my cat to feel more comfortable with our new puppy?
allow the cat to approach the dog on her own. The cat will probably take about 4-5 days before she get use to the puppy. Do not try to force the cat and puppy together. I have had both cats and dogs as pets at the same time and I just ignore the introduction of cat to dog. It takes place at the pace and place of the dog and cat. Once the cat decides to accept the dog, they will be great pals.
when the dog arrives ensure you give her as much if not more attention than normal so she understands she's not being replaced.

past that...time. at first the cat might be scared or mad. might even swat at the dog. but in time the puppy will win the cat over and they will be friends.
Be warned, Kitty will very likely scratch Puppy because puppy is curious and wants to play. Make sure to give kitty love and plenty of time to get used to the ';intruder';. I would never let puppy sleep in the room where kitty is used to sleeping and if kitty has favorite spots to lay, keep puppy away from them for a while or you'll probably have a mad cat.
I have never been in this situation and I suggest you go to www.littlebigcat.com and read Dr. Jean Hovfe's article titled ';Cat to Dog Introductions';. I am sure she will have many tips for you that you will find useful.

Good luck with the procedure and I hope the cat and the puppy (dog) will become good friends.

just give the puppy and the cat the same amount of attention and then the cat will not feel left out
I commend you for being proactive!

I have two cats and I have introduced two new dogs in the last 2 years. I let them do their thing. The cat with claws put the dogs in their place as someone else mentioned and the other just keeps to himself and ignores the dogs. I to this day though make sure that my cats always have an out. A place they can get to away from the dogs. I have a chain on my basement door that only allows the door to open enough for the cats to squeeze through. It helps to keep the dogs out of the litter boxes too.
Don't do anything let me them do it on their own. I did the same thing - except my cat was 5 years old and I don't know if she had ever been around a dog (got her at a shelter), but within 6 months the were chums.
I have experienced this myself, in fact my shih-tzu was fine with my kitty, now 6 years old. My cat has the same personality as yours, so it seems. It's very important to show your dog you like your cat, and vise-versa. I've read you should put your cat in one room, with the door closed. Let the dog sniff and they might try to scratch eachother through the cracks. Be sure that they understand you love them BOTH EQUALLY, wheather it be true or not!

If you don't allready have a dog training/puppy book, DEFFINATLY get this one Dog Owner's Manuel Handbook. It also has tips, like I've just said.

Remember to socialize the two very s l o w l y. It will be hard for your cat to handel it, but it's great that she's only two. As far as I can tell, the YOUNGER your cat is when they meet, the more tollerant!

    Hope it helps,

it all worked out for me =)
She may accept the pup with no problem. Just watch that she doesn't use her claws and hurt the pup. The pup is probably young enough not to be anything but inquisitive about the cat. Don't, under and circumstances, leave them alone for a while.
i had the same problem as you did....

What i did is that i would whach them closely and make sure that they dont get in any fights... ask the breader, or old owner, or petpeeps or someone that used to have the cat and ask them if the animal hates, loves, or doesnt care about dogs... and if the cat hates dogs then treate them the same and still love your cat and dog!!!

good luck potty training your brand new puppy!!!!
Let the puppy find out about the cat's claws all by himself. (Whatever you do, don't clip her claws before you get the puppy.)He will then learn to respect the cat and they should coexist happily afterwards.
All very good advice here! Let them do it on their own terms. Please do not declaw, it is cruel and unnecessary. I am owned by two dogs and three cats...they all get along fine, but it did take a little while.

Any advice for a 13 year old girl starting 8th grade?

I am a 13 year old girl about to start eight grade in 2 weeks. Any advice on how to help?Any advice for a 13 year old girl starting 8th grade?
8th grade was amazing!! by far my fave year! you rule the school, and grl this year its your time to shine! be involved. join leadership, be in clubs, play sports, and run for office. it is truley amazing, and your gonna have a blast!! just be urself, make new friends, and laugh alot!! dont drink or do drugs cuz trust me u will regret it. keep ur V card, cuz everyone that i have talked to who just gave it away say they wish they didnt. and dont, i repeat DONT let guys ruin the year for you. try to stay single to avoid the drama, and if you cant, avoid the drama in ur relationship, cuz i promise what you feel isnt love, its just a crush and it will pass. dont give urself up for just a 'cow' (crush-of-the-week). :)Any advice for a 13 year old girl starting 8th grade?
Is this a new school? Will your friends from 7th grade be advancing with you? Just be a nice person. Treat everyone the way that you would like to be treated. If you need to make new friends start out with complimenting them on their shirt, jewelry, hair. It's a good ice breaker and then say by the way I'm Jane etc.. Remember that you're not the only one new to 8th grade. Everyone will be in the same boat as you.

Don't be afraid to ask for help from your teachers. That's their job. The worst thing you could do would be to put off your studies. If you stay on task it will keep you from being so overwhelmed. What you do in 8th grade decides some of your placement for high school. Enjoy this year. It will go by faster than you think. Wishing you a great start.
    * Do your homework - know what is important and needed to be done first. Movies and hanging out with friends can be done later.

    * Don't fall into peer pressure - Things like drugs (they'll screw up your life), or ';Hey, if you want to be my friend you have to do this, have this certain item, or wear this, etc';

    * Don't worry about boys - Wait till high school to start dating.

    * Be yourself - people should like you for who you are, and not what you have.

And make the right choices, like what influences your friends are having on you. Good, or bad?

So that's basically it. Good luck and have fun in school xD
    dont believe everything you hear

be yourself dont be afraid cuz the people that care will love you for who you are and then everything will go right. i learned that a little late and i wish i had learned that earlier. also dont be afraid to start a conversation with somebody you dont know
Just be careful don't get in anybody's face try to look ahead and don't let boys get in your way of your studies. Take it from me i left school when i was 13 years old with a guy who was older than me he was 18. i got pregnant at 14 now i am a 21 year old and my daughter is 6 my whole life has gone before me i see my mom every year i regret it always but i love my daughter just be careful and don't believe everything guys tell you. How can a friend (Bolivian but with Italian ancestry) can get free and risk-free legal advice in London?

He is currently in an illegal position and working under another identity. He would like to use his ancestry to apply and get an Italian passport as soon as possible, as it is not his intention to keep being illegal and risk deportation. Please help. Thanks! How can a friend (Bolivian but with Italian ancestry) can get free and risk-free legal advice in London?
He certainly needs legal advice. Any legal advisor is bound to keep his situation confidential. He can get free guidance from a Citizens Advice Bureau, Law Centre, or Immigration Advisory Service.

My understanding is that he could get Italian citizenship if he can show that he has at least one Italian-born grandparent. It may well be, however, that Italy would only accept application from a country where the applicant was legally living (this is the way the UK operates). He would certainly need evidence of his true identity (Bolivian passport), and the relevant birht certificates. How can a friend (Bolivian but with Italian ancestry) can get free and risk-free legal advice in London?
this is a joke isn't it?

he can go back to wherever he came from and try to get into this country legally - we don't need any more illegals and certainly not devious ones working under an assumed name

there is no such thing as free advice - the bill is probably picked up by the good old British tax payers when this legal aid is billed by the lawyers..........

i am sick of spongers coming here with their hands out - if you want him to have advice so much - perhaps you can pay

    what a cheek!
    maybe call the embussy
Why should he get free legal advice here, courtesy of our taxpayers? ****** off!
What a joke. Tell your friend to go back to Bolivia and if he gets an Italian passport he should work in Italy. Not here!!!!!!!!!!!

Any advice on getting a toddler to go to bed awake?

Hi. I have a 2 year old boy that just wont go to bed awake and fall asleep alone. Its my own fault as i've nursed him to sleep as a baby. Now i take him up to bed and have to lay with him until he falls alseep. I know he'll get out of it the older he gets but sooner the better. Any ideas has anyone been through this?Any advice on getting a toddler to go to bed awake?
From what I have read and heard about doing this with toddlers, it is still important for things to be consistent. Your toddler will probably cry and that's okay, but you need to refrain from picking them up. Calm them down and soothe them, lie them back down and leave the room. Staying in the room, if leaving it just makes things worse, also helps as long as each night you slowly make your way closer to the door. They will probably still call for you, but you need to resist the temptation to pick them up and cuddle them until they fall asleep. You'll just be back at square one. It also helps for them to have something special to comfort them in bed. My daughter can't go to sleep if she doesn't have her fleece blanket.

Eventually you'll be able to lie them in bed, tuck them in and relax because you know they'll be asleep soon.

heres a link below worth a read and good luck with your little one!Any advice on getting a toddler to go to bed awake?
yes i have been through this myself only a year ago, you must put him to bed and close the door leaving him to scream i am affraid, you need to make sure he has a favourite teddy or comforter before closing the door.

    best of luck xx
my little boy was the same and also it was my fault, i had to do the old fashioned up and downstairs hundreds of times ignore the crying and keep putting them in bed it may take a couple of days but it works.

they only cry cause its not what they want not because there is anything wrong!!!!!!
Be consistant. Also- prepare him for bed! Follow a nightly routine and stick to it! I have a 2 year old son as well and I've luckily had few problems, but believe it is because he knows what to expect every night. If you find that your son is falling asleep in your arms, try putting him to bed earlier. Everyone else is right- he will cry. But it will eventually stop. Our nightly routine consists of: bath at 7pm, playing 7:30-8 (Mommy turns into Pirate Mommy), flash cards and reading from 8-8:30 (this is a good time to do something slow and calm.... it will help you gauge how tired your child is!) then bedtime. I explain at 7 that it is bathtime, then we'll play, read then go to bed. Then we play and I remind him that we will then read and go to bed. Then I will tell him that after the story it's time for bed. This consistant behavior and preparation will keep you focus and let him know what is going on. Then you tuck him in, give him a kiss and hug and tell him you love him, and leave him in his room. Remember that nightlights create shadows that can be distracting or scary for young kids. Ignore the requests for one more story ot a drink- they are distractions! If he's anything like my child- he'll have a million excuses for why he should have apple juice or another story before bed. Just make sure that you are consistant. If he cries or gets up- give him 5-10 minutes before you go in to put him back in bed. Increase the time each time you put him in bed. There are so many factors to consider- temperature and noise- that could distract. Try to eliminate these. JUST MAKE YOUR CHILD FEEL LOVED AND SAFE! :) Good luck!
I think a bit of tough love is going to be in order. Dont beat yourself up too much, it's an easy trap to fall into to.

I'd start by preparing him before he goes to be, say tonight you are going to sleep like a big boy etc...

I'd stay with him for a couple of minutes then tell him you're leaving and say goodnight.

Wait outside his room till he gets up or gets upset. Go in, give him a cuddle, calm him down and leave again, keep doing this until he is asleep. Dont give up, it might take hours the first night but the second night will take less and the third night will take even less. Keep the cuddling to a minimum and keep voices hushed.

This time next week he will be going to sleep on his own, good luck x

    Edit

Do not even try what cs2007 suggests. Leaving a child to scream alone in a room is a barbaric and unnecessary practice. You dont want your child to think that you have abandoned them. The technique i suggest may take longer but your child will be much more secure for it.
Try putting him to bed and then reading his story. You can start snuggled up next to him, and over the weeks get further away.
I know it seems cruel but I think the only way to do it is controlled crying. As long as you know your son is clean, fed and generally has no reason to cry then put him to bed and go downstairs. Let him cry for like 10/15 mins (this will be hell but be strong) then go up and sooth him, once he is calm go downstairs again and repeat as many times as it takes. He will soon realise that he's not getting anywhere and just go to sleep. It'll take a couple of days to a week but once you've done it you'll never look back.

    Good Luck
yeh, just put him too bed and leave him. if he gets up put him back or let him cry.( very hard too do i know ). he will get used too the routine then give up. trust me it works.
Well as uv said its because you nursed him to sleep when he was a baby an now thats what hes got used to even tho hes bigger its just for comfort now. From the beginning i put my kids to bed awake an iv never had any problems. Ronan my 3 year old wants a dvd on in his room but he ALWAYS falls asleep bout 10 minutes into it!! My daughter kayla who is almost 2 wants a hot bottle of milk to take to bed with her along with her teddy an 2 dummys!! So these are the only bad habits kids have!! Maybe if you just try for a few nights to put your son to bed an turn off light an leave room an see what happens. Maybe he wont mind! x
I had the same problem. Start by putting a chair by his bed. Lay him down put on a night light and sit by his bed. Do not lay with him. After he gets adjusted to laying down and going to sleep without you, you can work on letting him fall asleep alone in his room.
I have an answer that probably won't be popular, but I know it works as one of my sons wouldn't stay in bad and go to sleep. We put a safety gate across the bedroom door so he couldn't get out and left him to cry until he realised that it wasn't going to do him any good. He didn't cry for long before he gave up and after three nights we didn't need to leave the gate there. This was back in about 1977, you'd probably be reported for doing it now.
I don't have any children so this may not be the best advice (I've seen many of my family members do this)

    1. give him a cookie and some milk beofore bed.

    2. walk him to his room. talk to him about how much of a big boy he is..(if he sleeps in a toddler bed have him help pull the covers back and get all the x-tra stuff off the bed)

    3. Pick out a stuffed animal and tell him that Mr. Bear is having a hard time sleeping and if he could help you by keeping him company until he falls asleep...

    4. Tell him you have to go and wash dishes or something but you will come in and check on him and Mr. Bear.

and in a few minutes go into the room and check on him...

if he is still awake. Tell him to talk to Mr Bear about his day.

he will fall asleep sooner or later.

But don't lie on the bed with him...

or you could just lie him in his bed turn off the lights and tell him time for bed and semi-close the door. Let him cry..-.just peek in and let him know you are there but its time for bed .(its okay builds strong lungs)

Both methonds have been done by members of my family and the kids are all okay..

Me personally when I watched the kids and time for bed I did the first one..(It make them feel like a big boy since they are takeing care of someone(thing) else)
i am a mom of two...the best thing to do is to let him cry. i know it sounds so mean...but it does work. i would just kiss them goodnight, tell them i love them, and shut the door...it took about 2-3 days and wow they sleep all night long!!!! if you are ever concerned just peep on him, but DONT TALK TO HIM!!!! lol the rule of thumb is never talk to a baby in the middle of the night so they grow to understand that its not awake time, its night time...lol its really funny how things work but it is sooo true!!! good luck to you hun! happy thanks giving!
I nursed my son to sleep until 15 months...he's now 17 months. I always used the boppy to nurse him and when he'd see the pillow, he'd point at it and start whining. I had to hide the pillow. The first week without nursing was rough. He cried a lot...and I let him. I knew it wouldn't last long and it would be better for him in the long run.

Now at 8:00 every night, i give him his pacifier and say ';do you want to go night-nights?'; and if he's tired, he says ';yep';. If not, I let him play until i see he's really tired. (Never later than 8:15/8:30.) When he's ready for bed, i pull him up on my lap on the couch and hold him for probably 10 minutes, and we just sit there cuddling and ';talking'; about bedtime, and our family and whatever stories I can think to tell him in a calm serene voice to get him to settle down. I don't ever take him from playing straight to teh crib. Last night we looked at a picture book of our family. I rub his hair and scratch his back and play with his feet to relax him. (NO TV!) Then we say ';goodnight daddy'; and Matthew waves byebye, we go in his room and he gets comfy in his crib. I put the blanket on him, say goodnight and walk out. Its amazing. Last night he brought the picture book in his crib with him and i left his nightlight on. He was laying on his back looking at the book when I closed his door. There was no fussing. 10 minutes later, I went in his room to check on him and he was sleeping, still clutching the book.

    I have 2 points of why I'm giving you all these details%26gt;

    1. This would never happen if I didn't let him cry. Its the hardest thing, but it really works, and my son is still as happy as ever. I thought I'd ruin his personality by letting him cry, but I didn't:)

    2. Routine is key. He knows when he gets his pacifier that its time to sit on my lap and relax. When we say goodnight to daddy, he puts his head on my shoulder as I carry him to bed.

Another key is that he's not super hyper when I try to get him to settle down. I wait until the clues are there that he's getting tired. I also don't put him in TOO tired, because than he'll just get frustrated and cranky.

Good luck...its really hard, but in a month from now, you'll be so happy you did it.
My son was the same way. Only way to stop it is to play with him before the bedtime , maybe read him a short story ..call the whole thing a new game..and then tell him that is time to go to bed...once he is bed make sure that he knows that is safe to be alone and leave the door open ...he may cry a bit but he you leave him alone...after couple of days he will get use to it..Trust me..Sometimes only way to teach them is beeing little bit tough..and i know it will be painful for you to hear him be upset but trust me he will give up...and just so you know if you dont try it he will not grow out of it on their own any time soon. Just give it a try and if he leaves the room bring him back and then just go to bed he will learn ( KIDS ARE VERY SMART AND THEY WILL PUSH US TO OUR LIMITS) HAHAHA
I went through this when I was a kid. If you put him close to your door and read a book to him or sing him a song he will feel comforted. Make sure he has a favorite blanket, teddy etc. Gradually get him closer and closer to his room and he will feel safer like that. Im sorry to tell you but if my mom ever left me crying I woulden't want to sleep there but comfort your son he will feel safer. Let him play in his room alot and have him spend time in his room so he feels comfortable in his room. That is the key! Best of Luck!
Well let me start off by saying we have a 6 yr old boy, 5 yr old girl, and a 3 yr old boy. I completely understand your question. First step is to make a bedtime routine. Whether it be dinner, bath, then go in his room lay him down, pray for him, read him a book and tell him it's bed time now. Walk out of the room and shut the door. If he gets up tell him it's bedtime and put him back in bed. Make sure you have nothing else to do but getting him to sleep on his own because if you put him back in bed over and over and then give up then it'll be 10 times as hard because he'll be expecting you to eventually give up everytime and he'll fight longer. Just don't say anything. Put him in bed and walk out. Keep doing it until he goes to sleep. It may take one night it may take a week but it is well worth it. Thankfully we always put our kids to bed awake other than them occassionally falling asleep while they were nursing as babies. We did experience this same thing though with our daughter so I know how you feel. Hang in there. Trust me it is well worth it! Let us know how it works out.

After nursing school, should I go to grad school right away or work for awhile? Any advice from actual nurses?

I'm in my second year (of 4) of school. I want to become some kind of nurse practitioner. Is it best to go to grad school right away? Should I go to work and school part time? After nursing school, should I go to grad school right away or work for awhile? Any advice from actual nurses?
I have been a registered nurse for 3 years and I suggest working first. The best nursing schools in the country can't prepare you for what you will learn on the floor. You definitely need that experience on the floor to guide you in your career. You will be amazed at how much you learn in your first 6 months, not only in skills, but also in confidence! I would advise getting at least a year of only working under your belt, then consider going back to school. That will also make school much easier for you and you will have more educated opinions! I can't image trying to get my masters without working the floor first! Good luck finishing school and starting your career!

  • Any advice for a beginner Drag Queen Act?

Decided to turn my cross-dressing hobby into a money earner to put me through university. My girlfriend's planning on being my agent and making the costumes etc. Neither of us have any idea about this business though. So, any advice on clothes, make up, hair etc would be appreciated.

Although I am expecting some out there to call me a weirdo, try to be constructive as this is an actual market research exercise for us. Thanks in advance.Any advice for a beginner Drag Queen Act?
I just love these questions that bring out the lunatic fringe.

Back in my younger years of busking on the streets of Europe, I did a few gigs in the Cabaret bands, so I had the chance to be around a LOT of Female Impersonators... in Europe, they are NOT DRAG QUEENS but actually considered legitimate PERFORMERS and recognized for their professional abilities.

AmeriKans are so Homophobic and have such a narrow vision to anything other than redneck, good old boy stuff, that they don't know or understand the European type of Performers.

Some of the best performers I knew back in those years were VERY SERIOUS about their profession. They didn't CAMP IT UP unless that was what was expected. Most Cabarets are DINNER SHOWS and people don't go to one just to ';Shout insults at the queers'; when they are paying $100 for a fixed price menu with floor show.

You need to be PASSABLE... and I don't mean 30 feet away when you are on stage.. but FACE TO FACE... out on the STREET and in broad daylight... if you are a ';child frightener'; you will never make it as anything but a Drag Queen.

Try going to any gay bar where they have shows and talk to the drag queens. They will be your best source and you may even find a few fishwives who will help you succeed.Any advice for a beginner Drag Queen Act?
Weirdo?? No way and who cares what others think? I think it's great!

My makeup tip is MAC makeup. Seriously. I'm a singer and I perform on stage and I'll tell you this, under those hot lights - it does NOT run nor fade! RuPaul is the best drag queen I can give as an example. Also, there are two books by the late-great makeup God, Kevyn Aucoin that give you step-by-step instructions and illustrations on several different looks. I highly recommend that for any ideas you may have.

And GOOD LUCK TO YOU!!! Hey, there's a club in NYC called Lips that has amazing drag acts - drop a line if you're ever in one of them, okay????

    :)
Never had any experience in this however i would reccommend not trying 'to over do it', or trying to put on too much of show and making it look tacky.

Try and embrace the role aswell :D and try not to make it a part time thing but to always have in the back of your mind if you want to succeed.
Ok I'm no expert but I believe you should keep it simple rather than over the top. No woman dresses in sparkly loud clothes and puts on pounds of mke up and a has an enormous hair bun.

Try keeping it simplistic and minimal and as realistic as possible.

You could wear a dress with a light wig and some light make up.

For a beginner it is easy and looks fantastic to dress as geisha.

Can play on make up and hair style so easy . And it is perfect and so much fun to be a drag queen as geisha.
how you going to make money dressing up like a girl. Have people pay you to call you a wierdo? I don't see any money in your future pal.Maybe you should dress up as a bum and hang around in parks and panhandle...
    Weirdo

Need advice on the maintenance of my new haircut?

I just shaved my head bald on a whim and love it! My girlfriend, will probably hate it, but she'll live. I didn't think about how much the maintenance for this cut will be. How difficult is it to shave my own head with a razor? Is it better to shave it with a razor, or just clippers? How often do I need to cut it to make it look good?Need advice on the maintenance of my new haircut?
hey my dad shaved his head too, its been fourteen years since he did that lol , but he maintains it really well. before hes off to work, he just wets the razor and slowly does a touch up on it. Never waits for it to grow. wen it shows the slightest bit hes off to shave. And its better with a razor. So hope this helps the slightest bit.

Is there any profit in home cake decorating business? Please i need experienced people to honestly advice.?

Thanks. Is there any profit in home cake decorating business? Please i need experienced people to honestly advice.?
No. Treat it as a hobby that you love and enjoy it.

Profits come from low cost low labour intensive inputs. Its easier to make a profit from cooking apple tarts and you need to build that up cos its the same customers who keep buying them. Sell them in local shops 5 at a time building to 100 a time in several shops nearby. No transport costs. Just great cooking and you have a job with profit :) xxIs there any profit in home cake decorating business? Please i need experienced people to honestly advice.?
If you market it correctly and price it for profit - not for friends - no friends when it comes to business
I think it entirely depends on how you manage the business. I have seen lots of small operations that had the best quality food you could ever want, go out of business because of just now knowing how to run the business side of things.

Perhaps you could take a course in starting up a small business at a local community college? Check the library to see if they have books on small businesses. If it were me, I would go out of my way to learn as much as possible before starting or investing any money or advertising.

I want to get a street legal motorcycle but I am a beginner so I need advice?

I want a starter cycle to practice on before I buy a new one. If I drop it then I won't be too bummed about it. I want to spend about $2,000-$3,000 and I have looked in the Cycle Trader and in the newspaper, but I am unsure where to look.

I don't have my license, but I am going to be taking a motorcycle course at the local college so I am ready for a starter bike.

    Any advice?

Thanks!I want to get a street legal motorcycle but I am a beginner so I need advice?
A cheap small ride such as a used 250 rebel or maybe even a small SunL. I have helped many females learn to ride and pick out their first bikes. All have started on either the 250 rebels or the 250 excitor. With the exception of one who decided to purches a 50 cc SunL. It is now one year later and she told me the other day she was sorry for not listening becuase the SunL was now way to small. Most of these women have gone up to bigger bikes after about two years of riding, some have even gone as high as getting Harley low riders although most have gotten Harley 883 sporsters. One is still riding a rebel becuase she likes the way it handles and feels (she actually bought a new one last year).

My advice would be to buy a cheap used 250 and plan on keeping it for about two years. This will give you the time to learn to ride safely and also give you a chance to learn alittle simple repair on it with out fear. To find one check you local thrifty nickle and also go to area bike shops and talk to the salesman there. They often know where there are bikes like that if they don't have any on hand.I want to get a street legal motorcycle but I am a beginner so I need advice?
my answer is the same as it has been for the last 15 years

    susuki GS500

excellent for part, very very reliable, good handling, no fairing, stops well, corners well, cheap tires, cheap insurance.

    most importantly HEAPS OF FUN
try a Vento dealership the vento is a small harley looking bike with a little 150cc motor and if you find one with hwy bars and the bike tips you will still be protected the top speed is only @80 new ones retail for $2300 so im sure they will have some used ones there for cheap and can still reliable check the link after you get used to that you are reacdy for the big boys and run to your nerest HOG dealership.....I'll see you in the wind!!!
It's better to start with a light motocycle first, such as 'Kawasaki BN125' or 'Honda CG125' (it's a little bit heavier). Both are old brands but still work well specially for beginners who may take several accidents and falls before getting expert. I did learn cycle riding on a Kawasaki 100 G 7 T which was excellent during 70' but I don't know whether you can find it still??!

One more thing: Don't drive fast during rain or on wet or slippy streets; these cycles are narrow-wheel types and have low stability in such conditions. Instead, after getting expert riding them, you might be sure ride almost every two-wheel thing!
Start of on a used dirt bike, I say used, because you will spend less. The gears are the same. A crotch rocket is much powerfull than a dirt bike but you will learn without hurting yourself. Once you get the shifting of gears it's all downhill from there.

I have a black stepdaughter and I need advice on how to manage her hair?

She has a coarse grade of hair and I would really appreciate some advice on the best brands of hair dressing, conditioners etc, and where to buy them.

Also is it recommended to use a hot comb to straighten her hair? Would it work even if her hair is not permed at all, and how damaging is this to her hair? She's only four so I don't want to stress her hair out too much. I would just like to make it more easy to manage.

Thanks in advance for any advice!I have a black stepdaughter and I need advice on how to manage her hair?
Since I'm Black, have coarse hair and I'm also the daughter of a hairdresser, here's my advice...

First things first - since African-American hair is naturally much drier than the hair of other races, the number one rule in taking care of our hair is moisture. While it is true that African-American hair needs lots of moisture, the occasional hot oil treatment is fine, but using oil/grease (and yes, that includes Pink Oil products) on the hair every day is a bad idea. Although it can make the hair easier to comb, if nothing else, oily products weigh down the hair (especially relaxed (chemically straightened) hair), make it dirtier quicker and, believe it or not, can dry it out and make the scalp itchy. This is because just like slathering oil or grease on your skin, it can't absorb into the hair unless it's wet - it'll just sit on top of it and attract every particle of dirt known to man. A good rule of thumb: Look at the ingredients on the back of the hair moisturizer. If one of the first ingredients is water, then that's a good moisturizer. And as far as washing it, her hair doesn't need to be washed every day. Every few days or every week should be fine.

Since she is very young, you also could consider getting your stepdaughter's hair braided. If anything, it'll give her hair a rest from the normal stresses of combing and styling, and it makes it grow. To moisturize her hair and scalp while she has braids, use a moisturizing cream, a braid spray or both. Or if you're hard up for money, even regular body lotion will work to moisturize her braids. However, any kind of braids will damage her hair if the braids are too tight. After her hair is braided, her head should feel comfortable - it shouldn't be sore and it shouldn't feel like the braids are playing tug-of-war with her scalp. If it hurts while her stylist is braiding your hair, tell her don't be afraid to let her know. Also, be careful when you take her braids down. When you're taking them down it's easy to get tangles, so if you do, don't snatch at the tangles or try to force them apart or you'll damage or break her hair. Sometimes it helps to comb the end of the braid you're working on to prevent it from tangling. Just remember to take your time and gently untangle the knots and you'll be fine.

As for other methods of dealing with her hair, hot combs are okay for natural hair, but not so much for relaxed hair. However, a hot comb shouldn't be used on her hair every day because it'll damage and dry out her hair. It's not a good method for straightening the hair in my opinion, mainly because of the damage it causes and the fact that the hair doesn't stay straight for long (especially if any kind of humidity is involved). But even though she is only four, getting her hair relaxed is also an option. While most people would say that she's too young for one, I can tell you that my mother has been giving me relaxers since I was three years old (not a full-on relaxer, but a simple ';comb-through';) and my hair is doing just fine. Generally, relaxers should be done about every 6 - 8 weeks.

And one more thing. Make sure you keep her ends clipped. One sure way to make hair grow and keep it healthy-looking is to keep her ends trimmed (usually about every 6 - 8 weeks).

Products I recommend (which you can get from most beauty supply stores, i.e. - Sally's Beauty Supply):

    - Creme of Nature shampoo (I personally like the Ultra Moisturizing Formula)

    - Infusium 23 Leave-In Treatment (great leave-in conditioner)

    - African Pride Braid Sheen Spray (good for every day moisture, braided hair or not)

Hope this helps. :)I have a black stepdaughter and I need advice on how to manage her hair?
Thanks for taking the time to thoroughly answer my question! I can really use the information and especially the product recommendations.

I like to use mizani. It works really well, and conditions. Or ';pink';, it's a brand. I use the pink conditioning stuff. I forgot the exact name.. but it's pink. It works VERY well on detangling. I mean REALLY well. Beauty Brands is where I bought it. Or Sally's Beauty. It really is fantastic, I reccomend it =] Also don't wash her hair everyday, it dries it out too much. It's already dry enough. Do every other day or even every three or four days. She can still take a shower, just wear a showercap and not get her hair wet.
Girl find you a black friend quick!!! I'm just messing with you...as young as she is you don't really need to do to much. Get you a light oil(PINK OIL) use a quarter size amount put it in her hair and use a good brush and just brush her hair. Get you some cute little hair accessories and give her some ponytails. After washing her hair press it out with a flat iron(save you the stress of using the hot comb trust me I remember when I use to get my hair pressed). I hoped I helped a little...but seriously I would recommend you find someone new you that can help you out and actually show you what to do(a visual lesson is always good). Be Blessed
Ooookay, have you any experience with ethnic hair? You need to take her to a salon every 8 weeks to get her hair trimmed. Always.

I know she's only four, but it wouldn't hurt to use Mizani hair products. They're targed toward ethnic hair, but they're good for EVERYONE. It's right up there with Redken and Sebastian and such. She will only need her hair washed once a week or so, but always make sure to condition it. Don't blow dry it if you don't have to.

Don't try to have her hair relaxed, she is far too young.

Don't try to use a hot comb. If you've never used one, you'll destroy her hair. Even if you have, you can destroy her hair. If you really want it to be straight, flat iron it for special occasions.

Comb her hair with a very wide tooth comb to detangle her hair. You may find it easiest to just take her to a salon and let someone there show you how to put her hair in little girl styles that will last a week or two at a time. Ponytails and twists do great on little girls, but braids are too stressful at that age for most. If her scalp is dry, it may make her feel itchy, so you may need to moisturize her scalp from time to time.
when i was little, my mom would braid my hair. it helps with the growth of her hair. the hot comb comes later, my dear. for hair dressing, it doesn't really matter which you use, all black hair oils do the same thing.
I am mixed but I had coarse hair growing up because my mother didn't know how to take care of it. She is white obviously. Her hair need lots of moisture, so it should only be washed every 3 days using a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. You kind of just have to try till you find the right one but BedHead is a good place to start. She probably also needs a defrizzer if her hair is curly so I would try a de-frizz serum you can find at any beauty store. If you do want to flat iron her hair just make sure you use a thermal protector like Bed Head Fashionista. I wouldn't use oils, they are messy and smelly and don't do much for the health of her hair. Her hair won't need to be cut as often as a white girls because it won't grow as long. Afro hair tends to break beforfe reaching a certain length. Probably the best thing to do though at this age is to have it braided or put it up some way. Pig tails is pretty simple. Just make sure that it gets properly conditioned. Also never use a brush, only use a comb. Get one of thosse big paddle brushes that has the thicker plastic bristles that are set far apart. It won't do as much damage to her hair and will make it smoother. A brush will only make it poofy and frizzy. Hope this helps.
Even though I am not black, I have very coarse/thick hair. If you really want to avoid all processing and products, take her to get her hair plaited regularly. If you would like to leave her hair free, I would recommend using Pink's haircare (you can get it at the drugstore or Wal-Mart), and getting a maxiglide straightening iron, and dependent on how kinky her hair is you may wish to get it chemically relaxed every couple months.

Coming from a hairstylist, with her age she isn't yet ready or a perm. You would fry the poor babies hair. Go to your local Sally's Beauty or a beauty mart in general. there is a wonderful product called Motions, this is mainly for ladies of color. They make a whole product line, but do not wash her hair daily. Ladies of color do not produce oil as whit people, they must have oils put into there hair. I would highly recommend that you was her hair only 1 or twice a week. Twice a week is pushing it.

For you to straighten the hair, there is a lovely product called ';Yellow Bird'; This is simply a blow dryer, and it produces heat to straighten the hair. No harm to the child. Use a leave in conditioner, and some gloss, and her hair will be wonderful.

    Good luck!

Thanks i advance!Any advice on why i have trouble starting homework or projects(and how i can get better at doing it?
';Every journey begins with a single step,'; which I'm sure you've heard before, so here's the first step: plan your work out in increments. Sometimes a project looks so overwhelming, we put it off in hopes it will go away. When it doesn't, we hurry and don't do a good job, so we get rewarded accordingly which reinforces our reluctance. So plan it out while it's still new to you. Apply your interests to it. If we're interested, it's less like work and more like fun. Accept that you will have to do things you don't like no matter how hard you try, so do them quickly and get the unpleasantness out of the way. Start telling yourself this now and you should start practicing it now too.Any advice on why i have trouble starting homework or projects(and how i can get better at doing it?
procrastinating is sometimes due to not really knowing how to start. Break it down into sections and it won't be so overwhelming. You'll see progress from getting one section done and it might motivate you to continue. Getting started is the hardest part-just do it!

    What else should i take?

And can i even train and learn in the army instead of university to become a qualified docter type character.Advice on which Careers path for medical soldier in the army?
If you join either the Royal Army Medical Corps , RAF or Navy medical Services you can advance quickly showing teh right aptitude. Th ecomplaint I hear from ex Services medics is tha they were doing stuff far in advance oftheir civvy counterparts and felt fustrated that they couldnt do similar in Civvy street. do the shortst engagment you can in teh services and then get the resettlemnt bobs in teh forces to get you in a good position in civvy medical either NHS or private mediecal. Remeber medics at Race tracks , film sets and otehr events get shed loads more than an NHS nurse.

If you do the army for 3 years you'll come out with practicle training and some cash, Uni you'll learn nothing prqacticle and you'll be in massive debt. I went to uni as a mature student at 29 and it worked out fine.

No, but seriously, I doubt many of the fakes would answer. Furthermore, a lot of horribly dumb answers HAVE come from people who actually study... Want to replace my brick driveway, any advice/tips?

my driveway is crumbling and needs to be replaced. are there any pros/cons to already having a brick driveway? i would imagine you just have to remove the old pavers, re-level the ground with sand, and put it in new pavers. on the other hand, theres the issue of having 10 tons of old bricks i dont need. should i rent a dumpster? any other advice? thanksWant to replace my brick driveway, any advice/tips?
if you want to replace the old one, then take them up level the ground, tamp it down well, place in new pavers and fill the joints with a new polysand product to keep weeds from growing up and water from getting into cracks and damaging new pavers. then seal all of the pavers with high durable sealer that you can purchase at a stone or paving place. toss the broken ones, or use them in french stlye drains in area's where you need better drainage, or maybe you have a neighbor that needs broken bricks for this, then set the old bricks that are in good shape on the curb, i promise you someone will pick them up, i know i do. good luckWant to replace my brick driveway, any advice/tips?
I don't know if this is possible but can you re-use the old pavers? Remove all of the pavers and level off the base and use the old pavers up side down. The side that was down should be like brand new. You may have to buy some replacements, but it sure will be cheaper than buying new, and paying for haul away.
If you are replaceing the pavers, remove the old ones, get some old pallets and try selling them. The ones that are broken and crumbled throw out. Call around to a few massonry companys around town and they should be able to help you get rid of them. Good luck on your project.
Cover the old brick with a half inch of sand and concrete over it. No left over brick no expensive new brick and if you like the brick look then stamp the concrete with a brick pattern and no more worries about brick coming loose.

  • Where can I go to get career advice?

I'm currently at the tender age where I need to decide what to do with my life and eventually I narrowed it down to three careers I would like to pursue and within those there are even more things to look at. It's either going to be...

    1. Video Game Designer

    2. Cartoonist

    3. Writer

And within each of those is whole set of other questions to consider (if I'm going to be a writer what books would I want to write? If I'm a Game Designer should I be a Programmer or Level Designer?). And now I'm all confused and sick to my stomach...

    All of my friends have met with a career adviser from their schools but because I was home schooled I lacked that event in my life. So where would I go to get advice? I'm tired of everyone I know saying, ';Oh, why don't you do all three?';

P.S. Please don't mock any spelling or grammar -_-... Whenever someone hears I want to be a writer it's the first thing they do and I already have an editor who does all the mocking I can handle.Where can I go to get career advice?
Your library is a great source for career information... and it's FREE! Here's something else for you to consider. You need to think about the big three: Law, Medicine, and Business. Of those three, you can get started the quickest in business. If you enjoy people and like to listen, a career in sales can earn you a significant income. For example, if you like investing, you can become a stock broker... some easily earn six figures once they are established in the business. Of course, you can always take the entrepreneur path... decide what you love and build a business around it. I was recently in Napa Valley and the balloonists there earn quite a bit to take tourists on a hot air balloon ride... again, they love to balloon, and built a business on their passion. You can do the same. Good luck!Where can I go to get career advice?

How to start and maintain a successful Internet Auction business.

    1. Find a auction site that you can post and re-list items over and over free of charge. I have listed several legit free auctions below. Don鈥檛 use Ebay! The hay-day of Ebay is behind us and unless you want to pay more in fees than you make, be my guest. I have had luck with Epier.com and Yahoo auctions is big and dependable.

    2. Find reliable drop shippers. A drop shipper is a company that will let you list their products for free. You mark them up and make a profit. You have no overhead at all through this system at all. A true drop shipper will not charge you for their service. They make their share when you sell to your customer and your drop shipper ships it off for you. Be sure you save the item you list in your shopping cart so they don鈥檛 sell it while your auction is running. Also, to avoid this most drop shipping sites have the amounts in stock. If there鈥檚 over 75 or so in stock you should be ok with a 5 day auction. I will list several legit drop shippers below. Keep in mind I have an account with all of these.

    3. Spread yourself around but keep good records! Have one account at more than one auction and use several drop shippers as this will diversify your seller accounts. I am doing well at this, I figured this stuff out on my own. Now, I鈥檓 sending this information to you. Why? Please see step 4.

    4. People want to know about systems that work. If you list that you have a system, people will buy it! It鈥檚 a great way to advertise your own auctions and at the same time make a little more selling a product you made yourself with no overhead!

Need advice on getting insurance for flea market?

I was told by my planning and development office that I need to have a million dollar insurance policy that lists our county as an additional insured. I just checked with our insurance company and they told me that each person who is a vendor at our flea market would have to have their own insurance policy and have us as an additional insured.

I've sold at flea markets and no one has ever asked me for a policy like this. Can anyone help me understand what I might do?

Thanks for any ideas and advice,

StephanieNeed advice on getting insurance for flea market?
Asking your vendors to show proof of insurance with you listed as additional insured will help you in the long run if someone is hurt at your flee market. Each vendor will be responsible for their own booth and in the event that someone is hurt in a booth their insurance will pay first even if you are named in the lawsuit. It is unlikely that you would have to have others name you as additional insured but it is well advised, and you may have to pay more if you do not. What you need to consider is how many of your vendors have insurance already if very few have insurance you're likely to drive away vendors because it will probably cost them several hundred dollars to purchase a policy. You might consider a 2 tired booth rental price one for those that have insurance and one for those that do not.

In answer to all three questions, my AC is at least 25 years, with no maintenance except for filter changing and hosing down the outside unit. Same for the plumbing, except for having

Roto Router in once. Same for electrical, except for adding some circuits.

A dirty condenser can kill a system. (wash it any way you want just make sure it is clean)

DON'T USE ELECTROSTATIC FILTERS - use pleated filters or electronic.

any maintenance is a good investment whether it be car, boat,a/c, etc.
I'd say the best thing is to check/ change your filters often.

Any advice for me from people who have had a dying loved one in hospice at their house?

My grandmother came up to live with me and my family in June. Its now November and her health has declined so rapidly in the last couple weeks and she is now in a hospice program. Thank you.Any advice for me from people who have had a dying loved one in hospice at their house?
My father and husband both died at home. Surround yourself with supportive people. I had family around and friends kept in contact. We cried, hugged each other and just tried to take it moment by moment. It was difficult, but I was very glad that hospice was there. The social worker was very helpful. They also have chaplains. I was glad that each of them could be at home. They wanted it and so did we. It will take months to feel halfway decent. Be easy on yourself, and, if you need more support later, consider going to a grief support group. It helped me.Any advice for me from people who have had a dying loved one in hospice at their house?
To be frank I have experienced 6 death in my family. Four

elderly and two in early forties. Believe me i was shattered.

Ofcourse these deaths occured in span of 7 years. All

consolations and quotes did not work with me. I spent

3 years crying only. I kept praying and meditating but tears

flowed freely. While i know everything is karmic and there

is nothing one can do about it but try to convince somebody

whose loved one has died and he or she with keep bawling.

Only thing which helped me is TIME which is the greatest

healer. Prayer and meditation will help a little but the main

thing to do is keep yourself BUSY and OCCUPIED and then

TIME will do the rest. Good luck and may god give you

enought mental strength to tide over your problem.
    Death is every bit as natural as birth. There is a beauty and comfort to it... You know the quote, ';Nothing is certain but death and taxes?';

Anyway, two movies for you to watch. Oddly, both with Robin Williams as the star... Watch, ';What Dreams May Come,'; and ';Patch Adams.'; You will cry and cry and cry like a baby, but the humor makes it bearable. One of the biggest helps to me watching my virile and large grandfather wither away for years before he finally passed was to indulge myself in private so I could deal with my emotions in a safe and productive way. It helped me be strong, supportive and unselfish. One of the things that often happens when a loved one is going to die is that niggling thought of, ';What about me?'; What's going to happen to YOU. How do YOU feel. What can YOU do to help. These feelings are natural, but they get in the way of what is important, which is making that persons last days on this earth happy and stress free. You want to show them how strong you are. You want them to know that you will be just fine when they pass on. It is comforting to the dying to know that the people they love are settled (even if you have to lie and fake it so much that you deserve an Emmy!).
I lost my 81 yr old dad a 1 1/2 yrs ago. It broke my heart to see him leave. I had trouble coping with the loss and I just kept trying to remember the good times.

    I remembered the scripture ';yeah though I walk thru the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for though art with me';

Just remember, She is going to be safe because she is sheltered in the arms of God. She will soon have no more pain, no more suffering and she will be in a better place.
you are in a very tough situation right now. remember that being at home means alot to your grandmother. she has her whole family surrounding her at this time and can be very supportive to her. it can't be easy for you, but as long as your grandmothers pain is controlled, her needs are being met , i'm sure she is where she wants to be. you can also speak with the hospice clergy or the social worker for advice.

    god bless you all...
The only thing I'd like to tell you is First I'm sorry that you and your family are going through this. Hospice is different for everyone. I had a good experience. Just remember to make sure your grandpa is comfortable and make sure you are ready to let him go when its time. Talk to him...talk about what you remember. listen to his stories(ask about when he was youger or when you parents were) and than hold on to those memories. Lossing a loved one is never easy.

The Hospice nurse is there if you need to talk, She can help you with alot of things just ask.

    Blessing to you and yours.
Sorry to hear of your situation. My mum was diagnosed in May with kidney cancer, when found it had already spread to her liver and lung. It was very aggressive she pasted away sept 7 aged 60. I quit my job, well basically my life to care for mum when she was sick. We had palliative care (hospice care) come in daily towards the end to help but it was basically left to the family to care for her. Which i wouldnt have had any other way. It was EXTREMELY hard (esp. emotionally) because we watched her fade away. But Mum got her last wish and that was to be at home when she past. I heve lots more info, contact me if you need to

I just went through that two weeks ago. The surgery itself i do not know how it was because i was sleeping, i highly recommend you to do the same. I did the four at the same time so I guess two is not going to be so bad, if you stomach problem do not take the pills the will give for the pain because they are too strong but if you do not have any problems you can take it. When the anesthesia is going you are going to feel pain, do not suck or spit, after the second day rinse your mouth with salt and water, it helps to prevent infection, do not put your head down. they will send you to take antibiotics, very important you take it. do not use a strow , drink directly from the cup, tell your mom to make food and them to blend it for a few days, hope this helpAny advice for someone getting their wisdom teeth out?
Best advice: take the pain meds and sleep! I have a high tolerance for pain and skipped the strong meds and just did ibuprofen...not a good idea. OH and you'll probably feel fine the day of and maybe the day after...the real pain usually hits 1-2 days after the surgery!
I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth out at once. Two of them had to be cut apart. The doctor will probably give you a prescription pain killer to help with the pain. I found that holding an ice pack over my mouth helped quite a bit as well. Also cold drinks like slushies felt good for me.

    Good luck!

    That's a general liability policy.

You're going to have to either go to a local agent, see if they can get a master policy, and require each of your ';sub lessees'; to get their own policies, or find a different location where you don't need to carry insurance.

Insurance for flea markets is NOT CHEAP. Mostly due to the ';product liability'; issue.

Need advice with my pumpkin pie?

I am currently baking a pumpkin pie and just noticed my premade pie crust was supposed to go into the oven frozen ~ according to the directions on the package.I put it in thawed from the fridge. Will it burn ?Need advice with my pumpkin pie?
Keep an eye on it and take it out 1 minute earlier if it looks brown. if not, just go with it as the recipe says.Need advice with my pumpkin pie?
yes it will burn because if you put it in the fridge it is all ready warm you do not put it in the oven.
If it isn't prebaked then it shouldn't burn. Could the direction have been to cook the crust without filling in it? I think it will be fine. I would think that if it was frozen then it may water down your filling when it thaws.

    Happy Thanksgiving!
buy one at Costco. They're delicious and they're under $6 dollars!!!
You may want to put tin foil around the edges. The edges of the crust tend to cook fastest and the tin foil will help keep it from burning.
