What is the best advice for insomnia?

I take benadryll but I don't want to over do it. It seems to be the only thing that works .What is the best advice for insomnia?
I've suffered from insomnia off and on for years. I know exactly what you're going through. There are many tips out there. I'll list a few right here:

* See a Doctor

* Take a Warm Bath

* Get a Massage

* Listen to Music

* Drink Warm Milk

* Drink Herb Tea

* Eat a Bedtime Snack

* Avoid Caffeine, Alcohol and Tobacco

* Sleep in a Well-Ventilated Room

* Sleep on a Good Firm Bed

* Sleep on Your Back

* Get Some Physical Exercise During the Day

* Keep Regular Bedtime Hours

* If You Can't Sleep, Get Up

* Don't Sleep In

* Get Up Earlier in the Morning

* Keep Your Bed a Place for Sleep

* Avoid Naps

* Avoid Illuminated Bedroom Clocks

The things that have helped me the most is by keeping myself BUSY during the day and keeping a regular schedule by going to bed at the same time and getting up at the same time (even weekends!). Exercising during the day also helps. As far as drugs go, Benadryl is non-habit forming, so that is good. The generic version (diphenhydramine HCL) is very cheap. Just try to limit yourself to 25-50mg per night.

Good luck and happy dreaming! :)What is the best advice for insomnia?

talk to your Dr. they may have a recommendation. there are also sleep studies some hospitals do you may be able to participate and learn some new ways to cope.
i havn't tried this myself, since i don't have aproblem sleeping, but try valerian root or melatonin. passionflower might work too. exercising on a regular basis may help as well. sorry you have insomnia, my mom has it too and it reeally sucks. im getting this out of the encylcopedia of natural medicine. it says to take 100 mg of niacin, 50mg of vitamin B6, 250 mg of magnesiium, and100-300mg of 5-HTP or 3mg of melatonin forty five minutes before bedtime
I didn't have trouble going to sleep but had trouble staying asleep.

I talked to my doctor about it and he suggested Tylenol PM, It works for me and is not addicting. I also take a 3 mg melatonin.

I sleep really good now.
i've actually used gravol, but that may not be the best thing either. i would also talk to your doctor.
I take Excedrin/Tylenol PM, which really knocks me out. But, like you, I don't want to overdo it. My mom was a nurse, and she told me the best way to cope is this:

Keep a schedule when you sleep. Wake up at an earlier time than what you do, and your body will adjust after about a week to the new period and unwind. My problem was that I was actually sleeping too much, and my body was overtired. So, I now wake up a little before 7:30 am, and by 9 I'm yawning and ready for bed. It all depends on your schedule, how much you sleep now, what you do, but that really worked for me. You don't even need sleep aids, because your body will want to go to sleep on its own. If it doesn't help, however, talk to your doctor about the insomnia and see what he/she thinks about it. Sometimes insomnia is caused by other things, and they can prescribe something for it. But usually, the best way is to just keep a healthy schedule.
Insomnia (sleeplessness) is due to stress, dietary and medical

problems. By making small lifestyle changes like having a fixed

daily routine, relaxing and eating properly, insomnia can be

cured. I found the information at http://tinyurl.com/jfzpz useful

for getting sleep.
