What advice would you give to a socially inept person?

I have a friend who never really learned how to socialize. I'm not saying that in a bad way, but it's just the truth. He's asked for advice on how to make friends, keep friends, interact, and all that.

My question is, what advice would you give to such a person? I'm writing out a paper for this.

Please don't critisize me for doing this; He specifically asked for help with this and I'm doing the best I can to help. Thanks in advance! What advice would you give to a socially inept person?
Loosen up, and meet as many different people as possible. That's how everybody who ever lived learned any social graces. And remember that most of us are too worried about our own hangups and awkwardness to notice yours. What advice would you give to a socially inept person?
I'd suggest knowing the rules, program of the event he wants to attend. Homework, and practice.

Learn to dance. Learn to dress and eat - and practice before going out with people that know him.

Learn about the story in English before attending opera for the first time. Learn what to expect before going to big events like that too.

Read the newspaper front to back. Sports, local news - and read current and classic books.

Understand double entendres and puns, and why Simpson's and South Park are funny verbally like understanding Popeye verbally - not just visual jokes. Words are important. Don't open your mouth unless you can contribute to the subject being talked about. As guys never talk about shades of nail polish or who designed what gown - usually because guys never practice this knowledge. Stereotypes are also to be avoided - as women can weld and many are mechanically minded as any man. And visa versa - some men do know fashion, make up.

Oh, my is it too late to have his Dad and Mom talk to him about all this stuff? From a family moral point of view, traditions, etc.

He should have been paying attention when he was 4,5, 6,7,8, as each year brings more to practice. By 12 there are dances. By middle school there is cliches and groups form.

Also there is rural, subburbian, city type stuff I do not know about. Can he tip a cow? Does he know what chip throwing is? Does he know train/bus schedules and can move around town?

I hope this is of some help.
he needs to talk to a psychiatrist who can give him medication and help for his mental condition.
Maybe this person is just shy. It is hard to say because what works for one doesn't work for everyone, but they could start by opening up in social situations. They can start out small by just choosing one person to interact with. Make sure they are up on their current events so when things come up they can give their opinion and join into the conversation. Most of all they can be the one to invite someone out or over to their house rather than waiting for an invitation.
I think casual, encouraging pointers along the way would help him.

like for example, if you are in the mall with him and you witness some person making a gesture that is more ';advanced'; in terms of social etiquette and bring his attention to it and tell him to notice what the person did. be friendly and nice about it.
Every day, do something kind for someone.
maybe some sociology books may be a good place for him to start. Is it possible that he is just shy? Whay has he not learned how to interact? If he grew up/lived in a society he must have. Maybe he just THINKS he does not know how but really just has a different way about it.
I say, as a friend of his, to be a parent for him in some regards. People who are socially inept just didn't socialize as much growing up, by choice or not. They're just behind everyone else, and need to learn how to get by. I know plenty of shy people who are perfectly sociable. Don't be afraid to tell him how things work. Give reinforcement and if it seem slike he needs guidance, give it to him. He's just gotta learn. And his ineptitude has probably caused some anxiety when it comes to his self confidence and social situations. Make sure he knows that we're all individuals, and people are allowed to act how they want, but there are some basic rules we all need to follow to function in society, retain friendships and gain respect from others.

I'm looking for different ideas to tackle the problem - ie unusual ways to help save the environment that people don't normally consider - not just the usual ';switch off lights, take the bus and re-use everything'; Any wide ranging suggestions would help! What's the best piece of 'alternative' green advice you would give young people?
I'm just wondering how many are aware of ';NASA's Clean Air Plant Study'; completed several years ago? http://www.zone10.com/tech/NASA/Fyh.htm

';Common indoor plants may provide a valuable weapon in the fight against rising levels of indoor air pollution. Those plants in your office or home are not only decorative, but NASA scientists are finding them to be surprisingly useful in absorbing potentially harmful gases and cleaning the air inside modern buildings.';

';NASA research has consistently shown that living, green and flowering plants can remove several toxic chemicals from the air in building interiors. You can use plants in your home or office to improve the quality of the air to make it a more pleasant place to live and work - where people feel better, perform better, and enjoy life more.';

Hey, I'm working on a website about going green. Could you write an article on ways to go green? I saw your answer, it was very interesting. If you decide to write an article can you include your full name and sources, if you used any.

Thank you

Please listen carefully. The amount of evidence AGAINST global warming as a theory is massive and mounting each day. We are in a cycle that occurs naturally and often.

Any scientist that goes against the theory of global warming is sacked immediately though and the media is controlled not to report otherwise.

Even the co-founder of Greenpeace states openly it's all nonsense.

That's about as 'alternative' as it gets.

Please research it, and open your eyes to the lies.

don't pick wild flowers or dig up plants to take home with you - take a picture, it'll last longer;

do'nt damage trees, hedges, fences, or anything that you don't own;

  • Shooting a cheerdance competition with the Nikon D40x, advice?

I'll be getting the Nikon D40x tomorrow, and as a first time DSLR user, I want the cheerdance competition of my sister to be my first ';project';. As much as possible I want to have good photographs.

I wonder, since cheerdances are mostly girls moving consistently (dancing), will the D40x capture objects/people in motion accurately without problems? Are there any settings I need to adjust in the camera?

Any advice would help!:)Shooting a cheerdance competition with the Nikon D40x, advice?
In addition to the pointers above, you can consider using the continuous shooting mode, which will give you about 3 frames per second. See page 32 of your user manual (or ';Shooting Modes, continuous'; in the index, if it's not on page 32) for more information. Don't try to take a frame-by-frame video of the whole event, but use the camera in short bursts when something is happening that you want to capture. This will make it much more likely that you WILL get that peak of the jump or whatever. Shoot of 3-5 frames when you think you want to capture that ';moment'; in time and you probably will get it.

It's not cheerleaders, but check out http://www.flickr.com/photos/samfeinstei鈥?/a> The sequence comes up backwards, so ';read'; from right to left. This goose landing was captured in a burst lasting only one second. Actually, I was using 3 frames per second, so the time from the first image to the last was exactly one second. Things happen quickly! (Zero, 1/3 sec, 2/3 sec, 1 second.)

You will NEED a larger card than the camera comes with and you will need a decent write speed if you are going to use continuous mode. You want at least a 2 GB SD memory card. I recommend a genuine Sandisk Ultra II (60X) or Extreme III (133X). Lexar is another excellent card supplier and they have the ';Professional'; 133X as well as the Platinum 80X to choose from. Both Lexar and Sandisk come with image recovery software and limited lifetime warranties. Nikon recommends these brands, as well as Toshiba and Panasonic. The manual states, ';Operation is not guaranteed with other makes of cards.';Shooting a cheerdance competition with the Nikon D40x, advice?
As I see it, you will have no problem with it. Many experts say that it is one of the best of Nikon 's Models. Oh, and also, if it can't capture the picture without bluring, then try reading the manual for the settings you can change. Although sometimes when you do that the quality might not be the best but it will not make a blurry picture.
Just get as close as you can to the front!

and of course practice, and play around with the settings!!

Although for moving subjects - putting the camera in the mode 'Shutter Priority' (S) and finding a speed that suites.
You will need to use a high ISO - 800, maybe 1600. If the camera has Noise Reduction use it. If not you'll have to use an after-market program to ';clean up'; images shot at ISO 1600. (Your images will have a lot of ';digital noise'; at ISO 1600.)

You'll need that high of an ISO to keep your shutter speed at a minimum of 1/125; 1/250 would be better. This will allow you to capture the continuous movement of the competition.

Try a few with intentional blur with a slower shutter speed. It shows movement and can be especially effective if there are stationary figures in the background.

Watch for ';peak'; moments - when the cheerleader is at the top of a jump or during a back flip.

You didn't say what lens you'll be using but its likely you'll be at or close to wide open (f2.8? f3.5?) so focus will be critical. Unless you have the Nikon AF-S or AF-I lenses you will have to use manual focus.

Turn your flash off - it will be useless in the gym.

    A monopod could be useful.
I just want to chime in and say that the other have done a good job explaining what to do.

Come early to get a good spot

Your flash will be useless depending on the distance between you and the dancing cheerleader

Bring a tripod (or a monopod if there's not much space around you). It won't freeze the cheerleader's action but you still might get a motion blur effect out of them.

Sometimes I would let myself undercompensate my picture for -1/3 to -2/3 EV and let Photoshop brighten the picture afterwards but I only use that as one of the last option. Most of the time the overall color will be really unnatural.

I usually use manual setting or shutter priority but that's just me.
As always it isn't the camera but the photographer. But the photographer need able camera. D40x can do that.

I own a D70 and if D40x is anything near like the D70 then you would have no problems. Just learn these things:

    ISO setting

    Manual exposure

    Shutter priority

Unless you can get very close to stage you will have to depend on the stage lighting. In my experience the stage light is very bright and you would not have much problem with light levels.

You will need to use higher ISO setting to be able to stop motion. I believe that ISO 800 is very usable setting. Don't trust the LCD. Everything looks good in that tiny screens.

Learn to use the manual exposure and shutter priority. You will find that if the background color is very dark or light, you will end up with wrong exposure. So then you will have to kick it in manual exposure.

No matter what don't promise any thing for the first time around. Anytime you use new equipment at new setting, use the first time as an experimentation.

    Good Luck.
Your question makes me respond with -- it depends.

If you will be shooting indoors, then you will have an available light issue. To shoot things like this you'll need fast glass(f/1.8 or f/2.8) and probably a zoom lens that is fast at that. If it's like any of the cheerleading competitions I've been to, you'll not be able to get as close as you'd like. I'm guessing that the kit lens you're getting with the D40x will not be fast enough. The camera is capable, but here we are talking about the lens not being up to the challenge.

Flash is probably not allowed, or even if it is, you'll not be close enough or it to be of any use.

You'll need a fast shutter speed, probably in the 1/125th to 1/500th of a second range, which means a large aperture and high ISO.

Believe it or not, even though you think that the lights in a gymnasium are ';bright';...they are not to a camera lens. Your eyes adjust to the dim light pretty fast and have more range than film or a digtial sensor.

Nopw, if you luck out and this is outside, and you have a nice bright sunny day or even better an overcast day...then you should be good to go. Your only issue then is range. If you fget the 18-55mm kit lens, you might need something longer, as you might still run into the issue of how close you can get to the floor.

    Good luck.

Any advice on how to quit smoking tobacco?

I feel anxious without a cigarette. No money for gum or medications, and no interest, either.Any advice on how to quit smoking tobacco?
    well..

can tell you the only thing that worked for me was finding a support group.. im a member of nicotine anonymous, and Attend meetings both online, and locally... online voice meetings are as close as your computer.. there is really no wrong way to quit.. however you decide to proceed good luck!!!

Nicotine Anonymous is a Non-Profit 12 Step Fellowship of men and women helping each other live nicotine-free lives. Nicotine Anonymous welcomes all those seeking freedom from nicotine addiction, including those using cessation programs and nicotine withdrawal aids. The primary purpose of Nicotine Anonymous is to help all those who would like to cease using tobacco and nicotine products in any form. The Fellowship offers group support and recovery using the 12 Steps as adapted from Alcoholics Anonymous to achieve abstinence from nicotine.Any advice on how to quit smoking tobacco?
    1. Look into the different self-help ways to quit smoking. Some of them can be done without spending any amount.

    2. Pick a quit date. Choose one when you are not stressed.

    3. When you stop smoking, be sure to have exercise every day. It's one of the best ways to relieve yourself from the stress of not being able to smoke and is very good to keep you fit.

    4. Join stop smoking programs. It helps a lot to be with people who are undergoing the same situation you are in. You can start a support group for each other to help you in your battle against smoking.
First of all YOU have to want to quit, not your partner, or parents or whomever. Pick a date not too far ahead as ';Q Day'; The day before smoke yourself silly. Make sure that when you go to bed that night there are no smokes left in the house, all the ashtrays are clean and out of sight, throw out the lighters and matches and make sure to dump the most disgusting mess of garbage possible on top of any butts you've put in the garbage can.

    Okay ';Q Day';

If you used to have black coffee and a smoke first thing, try tea.

If you used to have a beer and a smoke after work, try wine. Change your habits.

Not everyone quits forever the first time. If you backslide just try again.

It's a hard addiction to beat. After 30 years as an ex-smoker my Dad still wanted a smoke everytime he had a beer.

You can do it if YOU want it.

    Good luck
    Then you are probably not serious enough to quit. But if you want to try, what you do is throw your cigarettes away. Some people will be OK, not everyone is heavily addicted or even addicted at all. Some people will rapidly discover why they're called ';addictive.';
Go buy some skoal and throw in some bombs
staying busy and snacks can help a lot

You mention that she left because she felt neglected. Some people don't have a clue why their partner left so at least she told you.

Now you've got to decide how you can show and prove that you will take her feeling/opinions etc into consideration. Don't make her feel like second best.

What advice do you want to give your current boyfriend/husband, to make him a better one?

What advice do you want to give your current boyfriend/husband, to make him a better one? What advice do you want to give your current boyfriend/husband, to make him a better one?
Totally agree with Indiegyrl, I also said that recently to my BF.... that he had stopped having those nice gestures he used to have when we first started dating. Also, I wish he wasn't as cheap.... he never wants to spend in us and also expects me to pay half of everything even though I lost my job a couple of months ago (he isn't working either), and that really makes me mad. And last but not least, I would love for him to be a better communicator, whenever we have an argument he just shuts himself up and refuses to talk or say anything, and sometimes this can go on for days. He says he'd rather not say anything than to fight, but I guess this way we will never solve our differences civilly and efectively.... you need to talk to sort out different opinions! That would be it I guess....What advice do you want to give your current boyfriend/husband, to make him a better one?
Well no one is perfect. I'm far from perfect myself, but if I were to suggest something to my BF, I'd suggest more of the little gestures that he did at the beginning, if only to elicit more of what he wants from me. The fact that he does those things less doesn't motivate me to do the little things as much either.

Any advice on how to stay out of gossip at work?

I work in a small store with about fifteen people that are employed there. There is constant complaints about everyone else in the store. Even if it doesnt involve me at all people will flock to me and tell me. Anyways, it urges me to want to talk badly about people too and I hate it. Ever been in this situation and do you have any advice? I have tried to just be the silent worker, but then people will start gossiping about me that I am depressed and stuff. Bleh....I should just smack everyone with a brick.Any advice on how to stay out of gossip at work?
Yes I certainly have been in this situation. There will always be a gossiper among those you work with...and there will always be that one person who enjoys listening and contributing to it as well. Oh, and you probably may know about that one person who will be a hipocrite and act as if there your friend and will talk about everyone but then when that persons around ';those'; whom were in there gossip convo of the day... they will be there right hand best friend, and may even end up putting u in wrong. If you tell me its just like being bi polar, scary, %26amp; unprofessional. So heres what I do... I always mind my own business. Never add more wood to the fire, and yes it is true...If you do tend to keep to urself 'cause ur just so fed up with the gossip..Eventually you'll end up being ';thee'; person who will be gossiped about. I go to work to ';work'; not to make friends or win a popularity contest and you should too..just nod your head yes or no if they start gossiping or straight out tell them...';Look Im sure its interesting but Im here to do my job and I don't want to get involved'; There are those who wont like ur straight forward attitude, but at the end of the day...just shows that they are the people who really care about what others think. Since u work with a small group...it tends to be worse. Just stay focused on what u do..Iv'e always been a very busy person and I focus on what is going to better my life, and I rather not deal with people who naturally bicker all the time. Im content with myself and when u do get the urge to gossip...stay focused on your job, do your best give 110%!... at the end...it matters what your doing to make ';yourself'; better.Any advice on how to stay out of gossip at work?
The key to avoiding this type of things is to try and be positive about everyone and all different types of situations. Sometimes it's difficult, but honestly if you try to put a positive spin on the negative all the time people will quit complaining about people, just knowing that you are the type of person that likes to see the best in people will push others away.

Another things is to never initiate the gossip, if you ever do this people will think you're interested in what they have to say about other people.

Stick to your work and avoid the ';water cooler'; talk. Good Luck

  • What advice would you give to yourself 5-10 years ago?

I would tell myself to grow the hell up! No that group was not cool. No they weren't your true friends. Yes you looked better without that much make-up lolWhat advice would you give to yourself 5-10 years ago?
I would tell myself to start exercising, i have arthritis, and it is becoming increasinly dificult to maintain. i have physical and mental health issues, and exercise helps both, i keep giving myself the advise but i cant get a grip and actuall do it,. Im 50 now, things dont get easier to do as you age, besure to spend your youth wisely.

and one thing i regret, a huge change of life style that was troublesome, i could have had some really bad problems, i would have slapped myself around and tell me to knock it off and get back with the program. i did sliten to that , life is better now, still gotta work on the EXERCISING!!!

VERY GOOD QUESTION!What advice would you give to yourself 5-10 years ago?
I would remind myself every day not to lose track of the things that I find precious, and beautiful and get caught up in the every day stress of life. I used to be so playful and fun to be around, and then I started to take life too seriously. People tell me I lost my sense of humor. Cute kids and baby animals don't give me the soft and fuzzies like they use too. The hobbies and long walks in the woods, concerts, gone. I am being treated for bipolar depression, and I've recently started crafting again, but my one regret is that I let this disease go so long that it's going to take a good part of my life to get back to good. I keep thinking, that people need to learn coping skills that are healthy. So many people drink or do drugs, stuff their feelings, act out, break the law, you name it. Even worrying is a useless emotion, what does it get you ? Like me. But I was never taught how to handle things without doing all of the above. So, if you love the beauty of life, but feel your losing your ';self'; due to stress and anxiety, life situations, etc, seek help before you become bitter and angry. Another words, ';Don't forget to stop and smell the roses!'; No one is going to do it for you....

Wow, my answer is so ';Debbie Downer'; compared to yours, but I hate to see someone young at heart go the road I did. AND, my perms looked stupid!
DON';T GET MARRIED!!! are you insane? she will turn out to be a total ****** who leaves you for a woman! RUN! RUN FAST! RUN NOW!!!!! also don't trade your truck in you end up with a piece of crap that always has problems! also try to be nicer to your sister she really helps you out of a jam later. and most of all DO NOT BUY THAT AIG STOCK lol.
Ten years ago, I'd tell myself NOT to get involved with the one who would eventually rip my heart out.

After college, I'd go to Europe and try out for a pro women's basketball team.

I'd wait longer before getting married.
Remember everything. Don't forget it, don't let yourself forget it....

I forgot my childhood due to a seizure. I have no memory of it besides some bad things....

Maybe if I would have held on, I'd have more today.
that all the sutff that happend in like year 5 or whatever that seemed major had NO significance in about a week. i worried way to much about everything
Don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone because it's better to make mistakes and fall down then hide from the world...
I'd tell myself to continue school, money may be important but don't base your life on it, save ';it'; for someone great, and cut back on the booze.

    Change careers.
Don't forget BIRTH CONTROL! I love my kids but wow how much different things would be.
always be honest. not just with others but with yourself as well

Thank youCan anyone give me some advice on accepting credit cards at craft shows and websites ?
There's a company called ProPay where you can set up a merchant account and process credit card payments online rather than pruchasing equipment. If you have access to wireless internet during the craft show, this could be an option for you.Can anyone give me some advice on accepting credit cards at craft shows and websites ?
Your local bank should offer merchant credit card processing. If you're a member at Costco, they have good deals on merchant credit card accounts. They currently advertise 1.64% plus $0.20 per transaction. That is really good, but you will need to purchase the equipment which could run up to $500, so be sure to figure in all factors when comparing plans.

As you're shopping, let them know that you'll be accepting cards in craft shows - they may have helpful tips for the portability of your business.
you have to have a merchant account in order to accept credit cards. Try going to a local bank and applying for a merchant account.

I want a saltwater aquarium. Should I start off with a good one or a cheap one & upgrade later? Any advice?

I already have dogs, birds, and fish so I'm aware of the commitment factor. There are so many tanks out there, I thought I could get a cheap one first, make my mistakes on that, then once I'm more experienced invest in a really good one later on. What are some good saltwater tanks?I want a saltwater aquarium. Should I start off with a good one or a cheap one %26amp; upgrade later? Any advice?
T-80 is the tank I'd prefer. It can drive in salt water too! It's very harmful towards fish though.

Well, since this is the Hockey area I guess you should start with a hockey rink and have the water a hundred feet long, fifty wide and half an inch deep. You can keep stingrays, flounders and brine shrimp and splash around in it in your free time. Can I come over to pet your stingray?
i definitely reccomend trying out a big freshwater tank, first.. then going to a small saltwater. I know the fish are cooler in saltwater, but it is definitely a TON of work... lots of things u always have to look for and keep an eye on. I'd rather have another dog than a saltwater tank, haha, i'd see it as less work.

It says im ';connected'; with the internet, but when i test my connection it says the network adapter isn't connected it's very frustrating.I recently got a new router for my house, and now my xbox live network adabter dosent work anyone have advice?
You may also have to configure your new router. Check out www.portforward.com this is a great site for configuring games to your router.I recently got a new router for my house, and now my xbox live network adabter dosent work anyone have advice?
You most likely have the wrong encryption key on the Xbox. MS products often report they are ';connected'; because they have an IP address from the router but they don't check to see if the network key is valid. So you are ';connected'; but it does not work.

Also make sure that the adapter on the Xbox supports the encryption standard you are using on the router.
Go into the network settings on the xbox and make sure it's set up for the new wireless router. Also make sure that it's a router that's compatible with Xbox live and the xbox wireless adapter.

I would like to become a professional writer of fiction, any advice?

I seem to have a natural aptitude, extensive vocabulary and I'm not lacking in the inspiration department. I need ideas of how to get started!I would like to become a professional writer of fiction, any advice?
There is a LOT to learn before you are ready to write a manuscript and shop it around. So many people here write answers that simplify the issue. There is much to learn before you get to that stage. And shopping a manuscript is not as simple as most kids here think it is.

First develop a thick hide - you will need it. You will face a lot of rejection. That is the nature of the beast.

Secondly,聽learn to advocate for yourself. Spend a lot of time reading about and learning about the publishing industry. You do not want to come off appearing amateur and unprofessional. The more you learn, the better your chances are.

Learn to write great query letters and a great synopsis. They are vital tools in the process.

Learn to write a great book proposal. Most writers are unaware of this step and it hurts their chances a lot. There are books out there that can help you. Or see if you can find a class on ';How to get published'; at a local college or adult ed program. The book proposal is what sells your book. It is what convinces a publisher that the book is salable. It can be the greatest novel in history, but if you cant convince a publisher that it has the potential to sell, it will be rejected.

Save up your money. Editors are another valuable tool to you. Every new writer thinks they dont need one, but you do. An editor can take your manuscript and tweak it in such a way that takes it from good to incredible. They are familiar with what publishers and agents want and they can work magic on a good manuscript. The only thing is they cost money. But it's well spent money. There has only been ONE writer in history who did not require the services of an editor. That was O Henry. Unless you think you are a writer of that caliper (and I guarantee you nobody is) you will need an editor.

READ. You cannot be a great writer unless you are a great reader. You will learn from both good and bad books. If you start reading something you hate - finish it. Then analyze what it was you hated about it. It is a great learning experience.

Brainstorm - Fill books with thoughts and ideas. Any thoughts and ideas. Marble notebooks are the best because they are sturdy. Fill one after another. Save them. You never know when you might find an idea tucked away in there that you can develop.

Observe %26amp; Listen - Become a great observer of people and a great listener. You never know when you will come across a great character for a book. Have your marble notebook handy to write down notes. The protagonist of your next book may be found while you are sitting in the food court at the mall having lunch.

Learn to outline and analyze - Outlines and character analysis is so important. That is your prep work before you ever write a word. Dont skimp on it. Really flesh out those characters before you begin.

Research - This is the most important part of your prep work. Without it, you are cheating your readers. The expression ';Write about what you know'; always applies. If you want to write about 19th century Russia, you MUST become an expert before you begin. Making stuff up or relying on the work of other authors is cheating readers. And believe me, you will get letters telling you when you are wrong.

    Dream - Remember the words of Eleanor Roosevelt who said ';The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.';

Learn - Writing ability is a gift from your Creator. However, you have to hone that gift and turn it into a skill. That means learning to spell and use grammar properly. Sentence structure is extremely important. Find a teacher and tell them you wish to learn to be a writer and want extra help working on your skills. Ask them to mentor you.

That should get you started. Good luck. Pax - CI would like to become a professional writer of fiction, any advice?
If you truly believe you have the aptitude, then begin writing. Contrary to many, I would avoid ';classes'; of any kind--they tend to stilt your voice and render boring your presence. Involve yourself, instead, in some writer groups where critiquing is their purpose and pay attention to what they say in the general sense and ignore the details (unless they are obviously right).

You might want to try Critters Writers' Workshop....

    http://www.critters.org/

It is an excellent and thoroughly professional group dedicated to advancing new and experienced writers in their work. Word of warning: Don't show your stuff to family and friends as this is rarely constructive or productive and never, under any circumstances, show incomplete works (WIPs -- Works in Process) to anyone but your critiquing group.

    ';The speed of the brain is inversely proportional to the speed of the mouth squared.';
    Robert Heinlein's advice:

    Write it.

    Don't just talk/think about writing.

    Finish it.

You don't need to gild the lily. If an editor likes it, they'll be happy to suggest minor changes.

    Submit it.

Showing it around to people/friends that can't buy it is a waste of time.

    Keep it up.

Just because your first choice won't buy it doesn't mean nobody will.
Even with an extensive vocabulary, always make sure that you have your work beta-read by somebody else before submitting it to a publisher. Even professionals make mistakes.

Develop your characters with personality quirks, flaws, and other traits to make them human and likeable. Also, make notes on all the little details of what's going on in your stories so that you can keep track of things and don't have plot holes all over the place.

Finally, be prepared to take *brutal* criticism. Editors working for publishing houses are not always nice, and some of them are actually kind of mean. Consider the criticism that is constructive and take it into account before making revisions.
There is a website called www.firstwriter.com...you can study it for free, and for less than 3 bucks you can get a membership which gives you addresses and contact info for all kinds of writers agencies, as well as what type of fiction (or non) they're looking for, and direct instructions on how to submit. Hope this helps!
right a book and send it to a publisher. Just to warn you lots of people have big vocabularies and inspiration and lots of people want to be professional writers. For example my English language professor at college. Who has a doctorate in English language and English literature and creative writing and he failed hopelessly at being a professional writer. Just don't expect to make money going into that profession.
Draw from your personal experiences! Be realistic... that makes for a better story. People like to read stories that they feel they can personally relate to.

Always spellcheck and proofread (even professionals make typos now and then).
go work on the street and get life experience then ur books will be real in a fictional way
First things first --%26gt; finish writing and edit it thoroughly

Second --%26gt; send it to a literary agent (research the agent carefully)

Third --%26gt; hope for the best and keep trying and write more
I'd love to become one too!! I suggest putting all your ideas down on writing. that's a good place to start. Also seek out a publishing company or editor. You need input and advice. Also keep on trying and never give up!! hope you do become a successful writer!!
Pick up a copy of the Writer's Market, or use the library's - it will give you guidelines for submitting what you have already written and edited.
Start with creative writing courses in school. Get yourself a copy of ';Writer's Market'; an annually updated publication listing who's buying what and how to sell to them. Write, write, write.

    Good luck to you.

If you mean the ones that promise to teach you how to get rich quick, they are almost invariably scams. If you mean proper education about investing, you might want to try the qualifications on the Financial Services Skills Council's website, under Approved Examinations and Recommended Examinations. Reliable providers include 7City, BPP and Kaplan. I have not tried any of them, but they have all been around for a while and I do not get the feel they are iffy. They all roughly agree on how long the courses take etc. and BPP was approved as a university by the british government earlier this year. The IMC, SII Certificates, CeFA, CeMA and the Financial Planning qualifications of the CII. Those are all professional qualifications, but they are surprisingly short. If you just want a brief intro, try Intro to Investment, from the SII.Can anyone share some advice on a reasonbly successful investing educational program?
Do they work? A good one will teach you what you need to know, so in that sense it should ';work';. But if you are asking if their specific system works, then no.

Think about it. If someone had a reliable method of making money in the markets, why would they be going thru all the trouble of sharing it with YOU? Advertising, hotel food, airports, phone calls, employees, etc etc. So if you are looking for a system, forget it. If you are just wanting to get educated, I did my education by reading and learning and a decade of courses.

My husband is joining the army and going into Intelligence- any advice?

He is starting out as an E4, as he has his masters degree already. He is going for Intelligence training. We have a young child, and I know you usually do not get the base you request, but any advice for which base to put on our list, just in case? Any other advice would be appreciated!:)My husband is joining the army and going into Intelligence- any advice?
Why he is going enlisted with his master's and not Officer Candidate School is one thing. I'd recommend he look into the OCS route if he's already signed his enlistment contract. Better pay, opportunities and can still be in MI field, or even direct commission route. Needs of the army is usually how they decide what post you'll be headed to, after basic he'll be in AZ for quite a few months for his AIT advanced individual training, then off to his post of choice/need. I'd expect to see him to go to a unit which is already deployed or about to deploy to theater. Once you get a better idea of where you're going to be stationed at, get in contact with the FRG, or family readiness group for your unit/post and you'll find plenty of support for your family. Helps you out too since you're husband will be extremely busy with his training and everything else.My husband is joining the army and going into Intelligence- any advice?
If you could give info as to which MOS he is entering, maybe I could help.

My husband is AF intel (I can't tell you specifics), but his AFSC keeps us in direct contact with the other branchs so I can get answers. As for duty stations, it is totally dependent on his MOS, as not all jobs are utilized on all posts (air force%26gt;bases, army%26gt;posts for future reference).

Should I handover the house keys to the landlord, when he has not paid back my lease amount? Legal advice reqd?

I went into a residential lease agreement for 2 years. I vacated the house after a year, giving 2 months notice to the landlord as per agreement. Its been more than 4 months now and he is yet to pay back my lease amount, but demanding for the house keys. Am I obliged to give the house keys before he had settled the amount?Should I handover the house keys to the landlord, when he has not paid back my lease amount? Legal advice reqd?
give the keys and obtain cheque or cash simultaneously.

if he need time you can get a post dated cheque and handover the key. then only he can raise money from subsequent lessee and pay you back.Should I handover the house keys to the landlord, when he has not paid back my lease amount? Legal advice reqd?
Yes, you have to give the keys back! And the landlord doesn't owe you any money. You signed a 2 year lease, and you didn't stay for the whole thing, therefore you forfeited the rest of your money. 2 months notice only means that you gave him notice that you would move out, but that does not entitle you to the money you paid. You broke a 2 year contract. I would give the keys back before he decides to file a lawsuit against you. In fact, he can sue you for the money that it costs to install new locks since you refuse to give the keys back!
Folks, 2 years lease doesn't mean that you have to stay for complete 2 years, as i understand you had a clause in yr lease agreement that by 2 months notice you can empty the house and also the other way the landlord can tell you to vacate with 2 months notice.

My suggestion talk to him/her clearly what he/she intends to do, maybe you can give the keys which in turn allow the landlord to rent the place to somebody else and get the Deposit which can be actually paid to you! But this has the catch if you give back the keys you don't have anything with you! so try to understand the real situation as to what your landlord really intends to do.

Read between the lines to understand his intentions.

    Hope this helps.

Final things hire some goons and get yr work done,(But take care that it doesn't become like ';Khosla ka ghosla'; - the movie ) btw, which city is that.?
The lease is not deemed to have terminated until you have returned the keys. Thats the law. The handing over of the key to you signifies the start of the lease and handing back signifies the end of the lease. You get your bond money back AFTER the landlord inspects the property for damages etc and the landlord is obliged to do that immediately after he gets the key. Hope this helps.
You are HIS client, not vis versa. Explain to him/her you are not here to play games and that everything needs to be settled before handing the keys over. Be more aggressive, your landlord has already had you waiting, make him wait too if he wants the house keys first.
Legally...until you hand over the keys, you are still in possession of the house. If landlord wanted...he can charge you rent for the last four months..

The way it works is...you surrender the keys and then the landlord returns the deposit with in 30 days..or whatever your states laws are.
Why does he owe you any money if you broke the lease -

    Give him the keys.
first take your money and then give the keys

Would like some Advice on raised veggie garden beds?

I was thinking of creating some 3ft by 5ft raised beds, but don't know how tall to make the beds. I was planning on using 2x6's or 2x8 boards, or should they be made higher? Just to go to the 2x8's instead of the 2x6's, increases the lumber price to almost double. Thanks, and any advice would be appreciated. I'm trying to make my ugly veggie garden look better and more controlled.Would like some Advice on raised veggie garden beds?
I had mine built with 2x6 but I had them made 4ft x 6ft. I have used them now for 5 years and love gardening this way. I have more control over the weeds and I don't seem to get as many pests. But my favorite part about these beds is the fact that I can actually plant at least one month before everyone else does because if I watch the weather report I know if I need to go out and cover the beds with plastic over night. These beds protect your seedlings from the wind too. I keep sheets of plastic like a paint drop cloth rolled up at the end of each bed if I need to cover I just pull the plastic over the bed and secure it with dirt or rocks. I doubt I will ever garden any other way again.

Hope this helps. EnjoyWould like some Advice on raised veggie garden beds?
I not sure what your age is or your physical condition but it does seem the budget is an issue.

If this is an on going garden and you want to continue it for years to come. I suggest using some 4 x 4 post to elevate the planter to lessen the strain on your back. Use cedar instead of pressure treated lumber as it has chemicals in it. Raising the garden not only makes it easy for your back but can also promote family, community, and friendship involvement because tit is less labour intensive.

Below the raised garden is the Storage area for all the materials you and friends require for your new garden design.

We are not getting any younger, so height and space help us deal with these issues.

Often raise gardens require 12-16 inches of planting medium to produce a good yield. So 12'; x 12' CEDAR IS THE BEST!

I need some advice on running the boston marathon?

Im an overweight diabetic who has always wanted to run the Boston marathon.. for the past few months ive gotten into a new routine of working out 3x a week.. I was wondering if you had any tips on what would make this run a little easier being a diabetic and all.I need some advice on running the boston marathon?
In the early stages, the main thing is to establish a regular sustainable routine and not get injured when you're at your most vulnerable. Your body is going to simply take time to start adapting to things, and it's perfectly fine to do stuff as a walk or run-walk early on to help it.

After you've been training for awhile, you can start to think more about increasing mileage, and training for things like half and eventually full marathons.

Qualifying for Boston can be pretty darn tough these days, and there are lots of people who train very hard for years who never achieve it. It can be a pretty tight standard. They do allow some charity entries every year though, so even if you never qualify, there are other ways to do it.

Anyway, I'd break your goal down into smaller stages, and take things one at a time. If you can eventually work towards completing a marathon -- any marathon, and one that doesn't have a tight prior qualifying time required like Boston -- you should be pretty darn proud of yourself.

The vast majority of the population wouldn't even be able to walk a half marathon without suffering.

Anyway, I'd probably get on the boards at Runner's World, especially the Beginners board, where you'll probably find lots of others like you and can ask for advice.

You'll probably want a book or two, and might at some point once ready want to look into a training program or two when you want to go after a marathon. There are some places like Team in Training where you charity fund raise in exchange for good training, and there are usually local running groups or clubs that will help with marathon training programs and group runs, perhaps for a relatively small fee, if you'd rather not fund raise.

But I'd keep in mind that Boston in particular requires qualifying and that can be darn tough to do, and there are lots of other stages to go through first if you ever do want to try to qualify.I need some advice on running the boston marathon?
Hydrate. Hydrate. Hydrate. The more hydrated you are while you are running, the better the performance. You're less likely to cramp up, pass out from heat exhaustion, and you won't experience that nasty feeling to puke everywhere after a long run. I personally prefer Smart Water for these kinds of things because there are electrolytes in it, and other bottled water doesn't have that. Make sure that your health is good before you run. Test your blood sugar accordingly. It's great that you're working out 3x a week, keep that up, but also challenge yourself everyday. If you ran one mile on Monday, try running a mile and a quarter on Wednesday, or set a goal for yourself to progress in increments. Also another important thing is stretching before and after workout, believe it or not. It reduces the risk of injury to your muscles and reduces the risk of tears, kinks, etc.
    Wow, impressive

    Don't give up!

Running will be the best way to loose weight and get your diabetes under control.

It will be hard, but you can do it.

I love to run to music, I run slow and love it. I have run 2 marathons, not fast enough yet to qualify for the Boston marathon, but I keep trying.

Lately I use http://trackmypace.com/, i can listen to music, track my pace and distance. It also tells me my BMI and calories burned. You should try it.

    Great job and good luck!
you must run a different Marathon and get a good time in order to be eligable for the boston.

  • Does anyone have advice for a person who has a hard time taking pills?

I don't know if it's a phobia or what, but I get all worked up when I have to take pills. Anyone have advice that would make it easier for me?Does anyone have advice for a person who has a hard time taking pills?
I am on daily meds and my pills used to get stuck to my throat. My MD said that I should take my pills with food. So I thoroughly chew some food and then pop the pill and swallow. The hardest part was not swallowing the food before I took the pill.Does anyone have advice for a person who has a hard time taking pills?
try inserting it in a banana.. worked for my brother when he was a kid..
u can buy pill cutters at a medical supply store. that should make it easier.

    Good Luck!!
For me, the hard part of taking pills is trying not to taste it. I put the water or whatever I am drinking with them in my mouth first, then tip my head back, drop the pills in and swallow. Then the pills never touch my tongue so I dont gag because I dont taste them!! Hope it helps!!
why do you have troubles taking pills? it is so easy, if you don't like the flavor try pills with enteric cap or put the watter in your mouth before the pill, if you cant swallow it crash your pills and put the powder into some flavored beverage. good luck
put the pills in apple sauce %26amp; they'll go down easy %26amp; quick.
Ask the pharmcist if there is a liquid version, or if the pills can be crushed. If if it's extended release or time release they can't. But there are others you can't crush also.
You should have an esophageal stricture ruled out as well.
THE FIRE TRUCKS ARE COMING UP AROUND THE BEND

    YOU LIVE, YOU LEARN

    YOU CHOKE, YOU BURRRRRRRRRN

IT FEELS SO GOOD SWIMMING IN YOUR STOMACH
i can pop a handful of vitamins at one time. put all pills in mouth. sip enough water for a comfortable size swallow. relax and let pills just disappear from your mind. (think about something else) when all is good. swallow. once you get it down. theres nothing to it.
crush the pill and mix it with pudding or applesauce. That is what they do in nursing homes.
people in nursing homes get their pills crushed upand put in apple sauce, pudding ect, it helps them take it better.

I would like advice from anyone who is or has become a Driving Instructor.?

I would like to become a driving instructor, but would like some suggestions/advice on how to go about it and how much it would cost? Thank you.I would like advice from anyone who is or has become a Driving Instructor.?
Presume that your in the UK as I'm only viewing UK and Ireland answers!!

Yeah i have to echo what trevor said - DO NOT!!!!! go with instructor college, have a friend who has trained with them and found them extremely unsupportive - all they're after is your money!!

What do you want to know really? I could tell you LOADS but would probably bore you to tears and run out of room - I've been an instructor in Warwickshire since 2006, i trained with BSM who were quite expensive, but extremely good trainers - but i think to be honest - it depends on WHO is training you not which company they work for!!

Stayed with BSM for a few months but was far to expensive paying the ridicuous franchise fee, so hired a dual control car for a year http://www.goinstruct.co.uk - kept my fingers crossed, set up a website http://www.davejonesdriving.co.uk and never looked back! last month my hire car ran out, but instead of hiring again, i bought one - very scary but so far so good :)

If you have any questions just give us a shout - I'm sure trevor above would answer any questions if you contacted him too - us driving instructors are a friendly bunch!! :)I would like advice from anyone who is or has become a Driving Instructor.?
Becoming a driving instructor is a fairly straightforward process. It may vary slightly from state to state, but the process will be similar throughout the country. State statutes and regulations govern how to become a driving instructor.

Associate yourself with a certified driving school before you apply to become a certified driver education instructor.

Obtain a certification packet from your state's driver instructional services division.

Make sure you satisfy the minimum requirements before you apply. You must be at least 21 years of age, have a high school diploma or its equivalent and a valid license to drive the type of vehicle you will be certified to teach.

Pass a criminal background check and a driving record check.

Complete any required driver education certification courses.

    Demonstrate proficiency in English.

Verify your employment with a certified driver education school as an instructor.

Additional Driver Education Training and Jobs

Decide whether you want to teach in a high school or for a driver education school.

Find out if community colleges offer associates' degrees in driver education.

Get a college degree. Teaching at a high school will require a college degree and certification by the state in driver education.
Pre-requisites vary from state to state/province to province, so check with your DMV or talk to a licenced Driving Instructor for further information.

UCANTCME has some good information for you too.

As well as the qualifications, you need to think about whether you are a people person, whether you have a lot of patience with teens and new immigrants, and whether you are prepared to work evenings and weekends.

You should also be able to explain things and get your message across in a positive and encouraging manner.

A lot of Driving Instructors work part time at it, as well as another job..........due to the ';one on one'; nature of this job, it can burn you out if you work too many hours.

    Good luck!
    In the UK Julie?

Find a Driving School that teaches Driving Instructors - don't use the Instructor College, yhey are poor and expensive. I trained with LDC - Learner Driving Centres (check out their webpage)

    training is in 3 parts

    1. Hazard Perception %26amp; ADI Theory

    2. Part 2 Driving Test

    3. Test of Instructional Ability.

Total cost should be around 拢2,500

Good Luck - (I would definitely recommend LDC - top class 1 to 1 Instruction)

Bored of my job but scared to do anything different, advice please?

I am really bored of my day job. I have transferable skills I have changed organisations many times, but basically I do the same thing in each new organisation which is what I am specialised in. Of course being specialised means more money - but its so boring! Doing something new will be out of my comfort zone and mean on a salary scale I start at the bottom.Bored of my job but scared to do anything different, advice please?
For right now and until the economy has straightened out, stay right where you are. Suck it up, do your job and put as much money back as possible.Bored of my job but scared to do anything different, advice please?
Because of the current economic climate, redundancies are at an all time high and so is unemployment. So at the moment its best to appreciate that you are employed. In addition a common problem in the workplace is bullying and if someone is not being bullied then that is a gem of a place to work. I would advise, in the times that your not working to attend some part time training that is vocational, whether it be boosting your ICT skills or communication skills. Or you could do some voluntary work, you will meet new people, have fun and learn new skills and it would look fabulous on your CV. At the moment there are alot of bankruptcies and shops going into administration, I would say for the next year at the very least stick it out.
Its the wrong time to leave any job.

But while you are earning, is definitely the right time to start thinking about the next job, and if you know what it is, working on any qualifications or skills to give you a flying start.

    Good luck!!!!
Doesn't look like you can do anything then does it if you cannot take a drop in salary. it is the wrong time economically to be considering anything like that now though anyway.
You should probably stick with it considering the economy. Many people are not as fortunate to be in your position. I think being bored with your job is a lot better than being jobless.

I just found out that I have bees inside my attic, so I need some advice on how to remove the nest?

I love and respect the bees, and I really don't want to exterminate them completely, look I have lot of honey inside my attic. A bee expert told me that they got trapped from last year when I sealed my vents to prevent other animals from getting inside; it鈥檚 really amazing how they survived all these days and made the honey.I just found out that I have bees inside my attic, so I need some advice on how to remove the nest?
The best way is to get an exterminator out there...Just to keep everyone safe...I just found out that I have bees inside my attic, so I need some advice on how to remove the nest?
I guess they are real honey bees. If so find a bee keeper that would be more than happy to come and get them out.

Bees are dying and deseased all across the country. So I know they would love to have them.

I use to keep bees and would go remove hives for people just to get the hives. and let you keep the honey. Good luck
My favorite answer is from Bin There, it's a great answer! And I thank you, now I'll have your response in my memory bank.

I was just going to tell you to seal everything, hence, no nutrition, no life. But calling a bee keeper is your best and right solution. An exterminator will do just that, exterminate them.

You see, there are good people on this earth!
well if they are still alive they arent trapped. i dont know how you would relocate them. but if you have to kill them and you dont want to use chemicals try soapy water.
Call a bee keeper he will come and get them for you.

Advice Needed! - Which degrees would give me a good chance in life?

I am considering a degree in Architecture, Business Studies, Business Management, Physics or Computer Games Technology. I currently have an A in higher maths, an A in higher Physics, a B in higher English, a B in higher Computing and a B in higher Music. I am thinking of moving to Hong Kong to find work there after education.

Which degree would leave me a good chance and lots of options?

P.S. Is there any difference in Business Management and Business Studies?Advice Needed! - Which degrees would give me a good chance in life?
If you want lots of options, Business might be a good choice. Hong Kong is a major financial centre in China and I think you might be successful with a good business degree.

That's only my opinion, though. Don't do it if you don't like it.Advice Needed! - Which degrees would give me a good chance in life?
No degree in and of itself will give you any chance at life. What gives you a ';chance at life'; is how you use whatever degree you obtain. Choose the area you like the most and pursue that, it will give you the best chance of enjoying what you do, which in turn will give you more job satisfaction. More satisfaction relates to better advancement.
Higher maths would leave you great chance in finding work place everywhere!!!

the difference of busienss managment and business studies are that managmenent is one particular thing you learning about the business which is managment and business studies are all in one, everything about the business.
youd need a master's or phd in physics to do anything in relation (teaching or research work, basically). its really hard for people who dont know you to tell you whats right for you- you cant really ask anyone what you will like best. look at the books you read for fun and the shows you tend to watch (if you watch educational shows). what do you see most of? thats how i came to the conclusion that i wanted to be a doctor- i had a b.f.a. in theater, but instead of reading plays in my spare time, i was reading medical books and realized my childhood dream of being a doctor never really died. you will figure it out soon enough. good luck!
I went with physics, but if you're not going to get a PhD you'd be better off with engineering - easy to find a good-paying job with only a bachelors. Architecture, you might want a masters degree.
    Definitely Architecture!

As the price of food escalates will you take the advice of the UK ?

I have been growing my own veg and soft fruit for 3 years. All organic and much better for you.As the price of food escalates will you take the advice of the UK ?
This sounds just the teensiest weensiest bit like a wind-up... but yeah absolutely go for it!

For the record, flying in and out of Luton several times in the past months and catching the bus into the city, I've noticed what I assume are garden allotments along behind strips of housing, most in absolute tatters. When there are so many people gasping for a bit of garden in the inner city as well as the rising price of food, seems a shame more isn't made of these areas. That said, I wonder how well veggies would do grown in allotments that back onto motorways...
i think its all propogander, and yes, if i had a garden i would grow my own, more satisfying

and potatoes take up alot of space for what they are ..
I already grow most of my own veg, at least I know whats been poured onto it in the way of pesticides and growth hormones!
It's not really realistic most people's gradens are not big enough for a cow.
    Whats with the Terrorist avatar...

And when did the Government recommend this?
nothing can beat home grown food, but these days not many houses have a garden anymore, wish i had one

Has anyone any advice on filling your own teeth?

I would be interested in your experiences regarding this, I believe that their are instruments and filling compounds on the market.Has anyone any advice on filling your own teeth?
Yes - there are dental filling kits available.

In fact, Six Years ago, I put one into a back tooth when I lost a filling on holiday. It is STILL there and I have never had any problems with it. Being white, it also looks nicer than the metal one the dentist put in!Has anyone any advice on filling your own teeth?
My advice would be not to do it. See a professional dentist.
You can buy a temporary filling product, the ones here is Temparin. However, it is only meant to close it up until you can get to a dentist (about a week).
I was in BOOTS the other day and i saw the filling compound your talking about......................... i think your only supposed to use it as a temporary measure till you can get it done professionally.
i would be scared to use such a compound unless i could clean the tooth before. imagine trapping food particles by the paste.

i suppose as a reallyshot term measure they would be useful.
Buy a good soldering iron and a dental mirror and off you go!
    dont do it
    that's hilarious!
Yes you can get the white temporary filling stuff that the dentist uses..I tried it but it was far too awkard..it sounds good in theory, but i would say impossible to use it
You can buy temporary material in the store but if you have decay then the filling material is not going to stick very well. You should really have a professional do your filling. If you are worried about the cost then you should look into the dental schools in your area because they will do the work for really cheap. As a dental assistant I really recommend you have the filling taken care of properly. Good Luck with whatever you try.
I would go to the dentist.

It can be very dangerous to perform DIY on the teeth

    xx
You can get temporary fillings at a drug store. One good brand is DenTek. Basically u apply the pastelike substance with like a toothpick type thing and it hardens in an hour or so. Still though, its not as good as a real filling so u better get to a dentist.
    don't do it.
When I was quite young (I'm now 63) my dad, who was about 55 at the time, told me that in days when dental treatment could be difficult to get and very painful and costly when you could get it, some people used to fill their own teeth using Gutta Percha. This is a black resinous substance that comes from a tropical tree and in those days electrician's insulating tape used to be made out of it. It was like a sort of sticky cloth and that was what they used.

I hated dentists and did everything I could to avoid visiting one so I actually tried it out a few times when I had toothache and it seemed to work-the dentist wasn't too impressed when I was eventually forced to visit him though.
I have used Dentek Temparin. It does not last very long, and will either fall out or melt within a week or two. However, it does say it is temporary and so it does not infringe the trade descriptions act.

Basically, the market is cornered by dentists. You cannot buy your own filling material and so therefore you can only pull your own teeth out completely or use chewing gum.

My advice if you are really desperate, is to go to a university dental college and let some students practice on your teeth for free. It takes a bit longer than getting an experienced dentist to fill your teeth. However, the filling is independently inspected by the trainee's tutor and so you can be sure that it is done properly.

I have almost fainted in a dentist chair before when the drill hit a nerve. This was after three injections of novocaine!
    If you EVEN dream of doing that, wake up and get to the doctor's, in the meantime, read, ';Marathon Man';
    How bizarre.
okay so say you could ';spackle up'; the hole. What about removing the decay that caused the hole in the first place. Decay is an infection, this infection will be ';boarded up'; if you close this ';hole'; where do you think it will go....most likely into the nerve of your tooth causing greater damage, possibly an abscess or worse into your bloodstream making your body sick......

Quit ';cheaping out'; find the funds and pay to have it repaired correctly
It takes 5 years at medical school to become a dentist for a reason..................
Indy, what was the filling kit called you bought? I have bought temp filling kits and they degrade right away.

The reason a person would want to do a filling themself is, that they are tired of paying 100s or 1000s of dollars to a dentist where they are treated like cattle and most often than not the dentist work itself causes more problems than before. If I had the know-ho, I would do it also

My experience: I went to ';Gentle Dental'; in Las Cruces with a small cavity to have it filled, it was my first cavity ever. The dentist drilled and drilled, then stopped and said that it had all ';opened up'; and I needed a root canal. I was kicked out, in excruciating pain after that, and then they refused to fix my tooth without at $750 payment. I did not have the money to haev a root canal done, it got infected and I am STILL suffering to this day! THANKS ALOT, ';GENTLE'; DENTAL!
    I just wonder why ?

Do you think you could do it better than a dentist?

Or are you just trying to do it on the cheap?

I think you would be foolish to try.

Anyone have any advice on what to include in my personal essay for grad school?

Anything would be helpful... I did some google searching and have talked to a few of my profs, but I wouldn't mind hearing from someone who has written one.Anyone have any advice on what to include in my personal essay for grad school?

    Advice ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

Ok so I'm 16, almost 17, and I have two friends with benefits. Both are ex's, one a girl and one a guy. I basically make out with the girl everyday at school, no one really knows about what we do though. And I just recently broke up with the guy but we are still basically friends with benefits. WIth her I just make out maybe a little more but not really and with the guy its usually make out then a hand job. Both are fine with it and I'm not breaking any hearts or using anyone. My friends say I'm being easy and being a whore so I just want to know some opinions.

Two friends are on the same page with me, it's my life and I should do what I want, screw what's socially acceptable or the social norm. And I'm not going to regret anything because when you regret something it means you didn't really want to do it but at the moment this is what I want.Advice ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?
you really need to be careful not to get any STDs or pass any

there is always a risk but as long as you are careful and your not hurting anyone or yourself and nobody is hurting you then i guess its ok but please be careful!!!!!!Advice ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

The ';screw whats socially acceptable'; attitude sucks - you should have pride in yourself, and that doesn't sound like you do. People regret things, especially things they did at your age.

    You're being a whore.
    Yeah...you're being a whore.

sending this letter to my ex, just need an opition..

What can I say about you …? You and I knew how to put a smile on each other’s faces… We had a long history together, been dating for 3 yrs and knew each other for about 5. A lot of people told me long time ago to move on but there is something about you that they don’t understand. It’s a lot easier for them to say that because they’re not in my position. I just don’t like how all this ended like this. We had an amazing time in Buffalo. I see how you looked at me, like I said, “ eye’s don’t lie”. It’s like losing a best friend for me…. I always be here for you for some advice or just to talk.... Have fun tmrAdvice....?

    Are you married?

Is this going to destroy 2 families?

Your information is rather limited so no dont send it because something about those words just doesnt feel right.

Your friend's told you to move on so obviously the ex had some major flaws because you listened to your friends and moved on thats why the ex is your EX.

If i've learnt anything in life , it's that once it's over you can not go back , so move on .Advice....?
That sounds sweet. I hope you're able to work it out with her.
Let it go. Move on. End the drama.
Thats very nice and to the point

    Advice???????

So I really like this guy (let's call him “G” ). You know how it is... I think he might like me, but I'm sooooo not sure. He's nice, funny, and smart. I really need your opinions on this.

It's really not what he does, it's more what his friends do. He does stuff too though. It seems like every time I walk by G, when he's with his friends, they push him towards me and say, “Go!” and he's always like, “No!”. I pretend like I don't notice. I don't wanna embarrass him! The point is, when my friends knew I liked him (they don't know anymore) they always pushed me towards him and I acted the same way. Both of our friends are kinda annoying... but I still like my friends and his. One of his friends also took his pencil and asked if I wanted it. He took it back and said no. I think he was trying to get my attention to G. I'm not sure though because it sounds kinda ridiculous. Also, I used my friend's cellphone (let's call her “C”) on the bus to call my friend (let's call her “B”)...Advice???????
i think that he may like you but in front of his friends he pretends not..try 2 get him alone and ask him about it..or just alone and do something fun together..i didnt mean that pervertedly..Advice???????
I think he probably does like you.

But I'm guessing he's really shy, and doesn't want to admit it.

Or he may have told his friends that he thought you were cute or something and now they're trying to get your attention.

Maybe to see what you think of him?

    Goodluck!

No offense, and the first answer is a clue.

I use it all the time in my life and business.

I'm amazed once again however that anyone with a comp doesn't first try WWW general browser search using keyords,,,IE FENG SHUI in this case,,,,HUNDREDS of links will come up.

    Rev. Steven
    - best way is still to get a good fengshui auditor.

    - but if you are short on the cash, you can try to renew the chi in the premises by tearing down the old (main) door, and replace it with a new one... it should be new, and get a specific degree (can be recommended by an fengshui auditor) to optimize your fortune... or do ittrial and error, do the new door, wait for 3 months, if something bad happens, tilt it, then wait again.

    - easy cash for 2006 put a pail of clean water (renew the water daily) at the northwest most of the store/ house; good until november 2006.

    - the key to money is in the location of the stove, and where it faces... it is based on your birthdate, and different for all people.
you may have better luck finding the origin of fung shuei to better understand it first; then a local library may have what you need

Can anyone give me expert advice on going to the grand canyon?

My husband And I are planning on going next weekend, we live in casa grande AZ and have never been to the grand canyon.

What part should we go to?

Where can you hike down just a bit into the canyon?

What will we need to bring?

    Are there fee's?

Are there nice hotels around to stay at?

Where is the lookout that you can walk out over the canyon?

And any other advice you may have that I havent asked.... Thanks much!!Can anyone give me expert advice on going to the grand canyon?
The Grand Canyon is a great place and this time of year is one of the best times to visit (nice temps and fewer crowds than during the summer).

The nearest part of the canyon and the place that most people go is Grand Canyon Village on the South Rim of the National Park north of Flagstaff. This has the most lodges, overlooks and attractions. From Phoenix it is about a 3.5 to 4 hour drive. There is a $25 per car fee for entering the park (good for a week).

For lodging, there are six major lodges inside the park and another half-dozen just outside the park gates at Tusayan. The most famous (and most expensive) of the park lodges is the historic 1905 El Tovar Lodge. If you are not into history and looking for something a bit cheaper, than Maswik lodge is a good combination of price, location and features. All the park lodges are ran by Xanterra and you can make reservations online (make them as soon as possible).

For things to do... check out the various overlooks - each has a somewhat different view and perspective. The ones to the east (Lipan, Grandview, Desert View) are very nice and often less crowded. There is also a nice free shuttle that runs from the lodges out to Hermits Rest and back (with stops at overlooks along the way), but much of it is currently closed as they redo the road. Also be sure to check out the many interesting historic buildings including El Tovar Lodge, the 1905 Hopi House Curio Shop (made to look like a pueblo) and Kolb Photo Studios (which often has free art exhibits). There is a nice little geology museum at Yavapai Point and a small archaeology museum (and prehistoric site) at Tusayan Ruin (near Grandview).

There are many hiking trails off the South Rim and you can do short day hikes on any of them (you don't have to go all the way to the bottom). Doing the quick 1.4 miles down the South Kaibab trail to Cedar Ridge is my favorite because of the excellent sweeping views, but the upper parts of Bright Angel trail and Hermit Trail are also good day hikes. Wear comfortable shoes and take plenty of water.

Remember to that the canyon is at elevation of 7,000 feet and so will already be getting cooler during the day and cold at night. Dress appropriately.

The lookout that you are thinking about is probably the glass Skywalk. This is not actually in the National Park, but rather a money-making tourist attraction on the Hualapai Indian Reservation near Lake Mead (about half-way between Kingman and Las Vegas). It is much further to get to and - in my opinion - not worth the hassle or expense (about $80 per person for the minimal tour package that includes the SkyWalk).

As a person that grew up in Flagstaff and still visits and hikes in the canyon a lot, I get quite a few questions from first time visitors there (see some of my other YA answers). I have recently put together a simple web page with answers to the top 10 most common questions about visiting the Grand Canyon that covers all of your questions above in detail. This is a non-commerical site - I am not selling anything or associated with any canyon store or tour group. It is just something I put together because a lot of people have the same questions. The website also has a lot of canyon pictures and descriptions of recent hikes and trips there (see link below).

Have fun! It is a great place. Can anyone give me expert advice on going to the grand canyon?
Go to the south rim. There are trails on the south rim you can hike. You need to bring water and food. It costs $25 per car to get into the park. There is a small town called Tusayan that has a couple of rooms. The place that you are looking for is called Sky walk not sure where it is but they can help you out at the gate.
The Grand Canyon hiking a little ways down is a waste it's all or nothing.

Stay at the top. On the drive there visit the montezuma indian ruins then sedona - meteor crater, indian ruins, the trading post at Cameron then the Grand Canyon -

Looks like these other answers are better than mine, but my advice would be to not fall in! For real though be careful cause it can be a bit dangerous. Have fun.
Well this is the perfect time of yr to visit there. its $25 to get into the park, and good for like a week or 2. The south rim I take it you are going to. The north rim is prettier, but like about 6 more hrs to drive. There are plenty of overlooks to stop at as you travel towards the east after you enter the park. All of the viewpoints to the west beyond the village and lodges are only accessable by shuttle, which isn't too bad. there are a few trails to wander down into the canyon, but don't go too far, its harder than it looks to hike back up out and its easy to go too far. All the trails are safe and all. I'd say the South Kaibab trail is the prettiest, and there are fewer people. NO water on that trail though. Bring plenty, and a couple snacks too. Our favorite overlook is the one way to the east, where there is a tower and a gift shop and a restarant. If you can time it right, its the best one to be at for sunset.

as far as lodging, theres a few hotels outside the park. Forgat the name of the village outside the park, an indian name. Call some of the lodges inside the park though, alot of times there are cancelations and you can get a room last minute, especially this time of yr. If ya stay outside the park, theres a cool IMAX movie you can watch, its kinda worth the money if ya got some time to kill one evening. That lookout that you can walk out over the canyon is quite a few miles to drive to the west, never been there, but its quite pricey I hear. In Peach Springs , forgot the name of that glass walkway. Email me with anymore questions, we go there quite often.
