Why are young people scared of asking their parents for advice about their bodies?

I notice a lot of questions are very similar in nature. There are many books (remember those things with pages and pictures) and/or web sites from various government and health authorities. Plus your local doctor can be a good source of reliable information. Why do kids depend upon misinformed individuals to help solve what seems to be major disaster in their lives (eg getting your first period)? Why are young people scared of asking their parents for advice about their bodies?
We grow up learning to hide our bodies and keep them to ourselves, hiding away from the public. We're taught about these changes in school, and sometimes a picture and an explanation isn't quite enough to prepare us for when the changes actually start coming.

Because we've conditioned ourselves for so long to keep our bodies hidden and to be ashamed of them, they're embarrassed to bring up things like that, and they turn to their friends, with whom they've got stronger (and by that I mean 'more recent/prominent') relationships with. Why are young people scared of asking their parents for advice about their bodies?
I'm not sure on how to answer this question, but I can tell you that I was very embarrassed when I first got my period. I didn't want to tell my mom and hid it very well from my dad. I think the reasoning behind it is because it is a major change in the body and it just takes time to get comfortable with talking about it.
Peter .... do you not remember when you were a kid and nothing was more mortifying than having to ask mom about something happening with your bottom?

It's just weird, ok?

We're told from a very young age that those parts are private, sometimes even that they're dirty, so of course it's strange to talk about them.
Because there is probably nothing on earth more personal to a child. When you're older and you get to a point where every single person your age has already gone through the same thing it becomes really easy to talk about, but those first few years, no matter how irrational, are really embarrassing.
bcos its kinda embarassin esp ,if ur relations. wth ur parents is not a open 1 and u dnt really talk or share but ur frnds u thin r or would b goin thru the same things so u tend 2 lean towards them esp ,4 girls tht last quest. tht is somethin they prob. wouldnt want their dad 2 kno ,not underst. tht ur parents were once a kid, teenager also
because theyre too immature to know that it happens to everyone and that theres nothing to be embarrassed about.
