Does anyone have advice on how to learn Brazilian Portuguese?

I'm looking into programs that would allow me to study Portuguese in Brazil for 6-12 months. Does anyone know of any good institutions? I'm a native English speaker but have always wanted to learn Portuguese. It looks like next year might be the year to do this...

My suggestion is to stay in Brazil for a few months and get a native tutor and practicing daily will be easier and cheaper. However, if you want to go to a Brazilian school there try and check this website for a list of schools.

i bought a phrasebook, and found a brazilian waitress to teach me pronunciation. i then bought college textbooks and did those. i kept daily journals in portuguese, shopping lists in portuguese you name it. it's good if you have someone to practice with.



Find a good native teacher as i did and it will take you about a year tops to be fluent if you keep it up with the tutor as i did..
